How can you make a difference? 

Under supervision of the Chief of Education, review Inclusive Education training materials and develop a training and support plan for teacher and school leader training to Improve Inclusive Education.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Review of existing inclusive education training materials and mapping of trainings already done in this field (10 days)
  2. Finalization of teacher training manual and materials in Tetum or Portuguese (20 days)
  3. Design of training and accompaniment plan (15 days)
  4. Creation of short teacher guidebook of concrete classroom strategies to use in the classroom in Tetum/Portuguese (20 days) 
  5. Produce guidelines for Curriculum Cabinet regarding the use of modifications and accommodations for assessment of students in Cycles 1 and 2 of Basic Education in Tetum or Portuguese (20 days)
  6. Develop standards for resource centers, if these are to be continued as an effective part of the Inclusive Education Strategy in Tetum or Portuguese (11 days)

DELIVERABLES:

  1. Mapping of materials and trainings already given, with recommendations on how to move forward
  2. Finalized teacher training manual and materials
  3. Training and accompaniment plan developed and agreed upon between INFORDEPE and Inclusive Education Department
  4. Teacher guidebook
  5. Curriculum Assessment Modifications and Accommodations guidelines
  6. Resource center standards.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Post-graduate degree in Special Education, Psychology, or another relevant field
  • Previous experience working directly with students with special educational needs, including with some experience with children with cognitive and/or psychological challenges
  • Previous experience working directly with families of children with special needs preferred
  • Previous experience working in resource-poor contexts, with experience working in Timor-Leste mandatory.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is mandatory; command of either Portuguese, Tetum, or both is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative and self-motivated.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
