Organizational Setting

The position is located at the FAO Representation in Georgia. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Georgia, the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative in Georgia and the technical guidance of the REU ICT Officer, the IT Specialist will contribute to the effective operation of information technology services; provide technical expertise for the development, implementation, management, and support of systems and networks, the planning and implementation of complex assignments and new methods and approaches in a wide variety of IT specialties.

Technical Focus

The Information Technology Specialist performs the full range of Information Technology (IT) support functions. He /she ensures quality, transparency and consistency of IT service delivery in line with established IT procedures and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Tasks and responsibilities

• Receive and log all requests from users relating to IT services using FAO corporate systems.
• Provide 1st and 2nd level support for divisional / departmental users to resolve issues regarding FAO applications, standard and non-standard hardware, software and peripherals; act as liaison between users and the IT Division for resolution of more complex or persistent issues that cannot be solved directly; monitor progress and ensure problem resolution.
• Provide user guidance and training on IT equipment, services and contribute to the IT knowledge base.
• Advise divisional or departmental staff on the selection of standard IT hardware and software.
• Assist in implementing procedures, installations (including non-standard equipment that has been cleared for use as per established policies and procedures) and corresponding user support.
• Assist in the planning and procurement of IT-equipment and software, based on established equipment life cycle processes; liaise with the IT Division for clearance of non-standard equipment and software.
• Manage the divisional / departmental pool of IT equipment and local stock of IT supplies and materials: maintain the inventory and assets in FAO systems and GRMS fixed assets; ensure that software licenses are legally acquired and formally recorded.
• Provide support for divisional/ departmental (online, hybrid) meetings and help in coordination of AV and virtual conferences of the regional office with the decentralized offices and external points, liaise with the IT Division if needed.
• Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Secondary school education
• Industry-recognized IT certifications
• 4 years of relevant experience in IT support work
• Working knowledge of English and Georgian
• National of Georgia or resident of the country with valid work permit.
