Job Description

A day in the life of a Project Manager for Large European Institutions Projects:

As a Project Manager for:

Large European Institutions Projects, you will be part of highly skilled agile teams that design, develop, deploy, customize, and support break-through applications for EU institutions.

Your main duties will be to

  • Manage IT development projects to meet identified business needs, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales, and quality;
  • Advice on project strategies, planning, definition of tasks and deliverables. Estimate costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful completion of each project to agreed terms of reference;
  • Review of project deliverables, quality control, risk analysis and management, status reports, problem reporting and management systems, follow up and organisation;
  • Manage the project team;
  • Manage the interaction with the business stakeholders;
  • Participate in functional working groups and progress meetings. Prepare and maintain project and quality plans and tracks activities against the plan, provide regular and accurate reports;
  • Monitor costs, timescales and resources used. Take action where these deviate from agreed tolerances. Ensure that delivered systems are implemented within these criteria;
  • Manage the change control procedure gaining agreement for revisions to the project from project sponsors. Provide effective leadership for the project team ensuring that team members are motivated and constantly developing their skills and experience.

Qualifications

If you have

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or any other similar disciplines, with at least 16 years of work experience or a Master’s Degree with 12 years of experience;
  • Hands-on expertise with IT project management, in projects using PM2 and/or Agile methodologies;
  • Good knowledge of project management standards and methodologies (Project Scheduling, Strategic Planning, Financial Modelling, Budgeting, Forecasting, Performance Tracking). Good knowledge of Agile methodologies, Scrum Management, Lean agile;
  • Technical knowledge in at least one IT development stack/technology (preferable Java based);
  • Good knowledge of project management tools e.g. MS Project, Microsoft Excel;
  • Hand-on expertise with team management;
  • Experience with team engagement and motivation techniques;
  • Meeting facilitation, good communication skills;
  • Ability to give presentations;
  • Ability to apply high-quality standards to all tasks;
  • Leadership & Negotiation skills;
  • Ability to adapt to unplanned changes or decisions;
  • Able to work well under pressure and able to handle stress;
  • Comfort in international and multicultural working environments;
  • Proficient knowledge of English, both written and orally.

It would be nice if you had

  • General knowledge of EU institutions;
  • Experience with European Commission is an asset;
  • Knowledge of other EU languages is a plus, especially French;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP);
  • PRINCE2 Foundation/PRINCE2 Practitioner;
  • Certified in PM2;
  • Previous technical experience with solutions based on Java and Oracle Databases;
  • Previous experience with solutions manipulating large volumes of data.
