Job description
Access to quality basic education is challenging in Sierra Leone due to a lack of resources from public institutions, poverty and gender discrimination. Nevertheless, the government has the ambition to provide all children in Sierra Leone with high-quality basic education. EducAid is an international non-governmental organization that aims to provide children from disadvantaged families with proper basic education. To this end, it manages five of its own schools (including in Freetown and Port Loko) and also works with partner schools. In addition to knowledge transfer, the focus is on teaching values (e.g. equality, diversity, climate protection) and soft skills (independent thinking and working methods, good communication skills). The aim is to train students to become independent individuals who are willing to take responsibility and contribute to society. Also, EduCaid aims to further develop the curriculum for this ambitious goal, train and advise its own People and Culture Team, to approach HR processes more strategically to achieve global standards.
Your tasks
- Establishment of a People and Culture Team including the expansion of strategic HR work, improvement of HR standards and processes
- Advising EducAid on the development of the curriculum – particularly with regard to the integration of soft skills
- Developing concepts to improve the employability of students, career guidance services and entrepreneurial activities
- Close cooperation with GIZ projects (e.g. sustainable economic development) on possible vocational training offers and requirements for the labor market as well as entrepreneurial expertise
- Special focus on girls – with regard to the design of possible career paths and entrepreneurship
Your profile
- University degree in education or another degree with a comparable focus
- First experience in the field of organizational development in a developing country
- Initial experience and expertise in basic and vocational education in a developing country
- High intercultural sensitivity, empathy, ability to work in a team and patience
- Excellent oral and written communication and facilitation skills
- Resilience to work in a challenging environment with difficult weather conditions and limited access to electricity and water
- Fluent knowledge of the English language
