How can you make a difference?

The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Communication Specialist in Belém. In the context of COP30, and the events preceding it, as well as the new Goal Area on climate change, the communication officer will assist in planning and implementing an advocacy and communication strategy to bring children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthen political will in support of UNICEF’s mission and objectives in the country, with a special focus on the Amazon Region, and in enhancing the organization’s capacity to mobilize society for the climate crisis.

Key Expected Results

  1. Advocacy strategy: The development and implementation of an advocacy plan for the lead up to COP30, including in relation to the Youth Conference and Green Rising.
  2. Communication strategy: The production of communication products and materials is timely executed and followed up to support country communication strategy, regional and global campaigns, and priorities, and to support resource mobilization as set out in the work plan.
  3. Media relations: Effective and timely professional assistance and support are provided in developing, drafting, and maintaining contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets covering all media – print, TV, radio, web etc. – in the country, to communicate the story of UNICEF’s cooperation to a wider audience.
  4. Monitoring and evaluation: Regular monitoring and evaluation activities are undertaken according to the work plan to ensure maximum impact and continuous improvement of country communication efforts. Results and reports are prepared and shared on a timely basis.
  5. Celebrities, partners, and special events: The Country Office’s contact list of individuals, groups, organizations, and fora (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts), is maintained and further developed, whose support is essential to/can assist in achieving the advocacy and communication objectives and who support and are able to actively participate in special events and activities that further the country programme goals.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education

University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.

Experience

  • One year of practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
  • Demonstrated strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience of working effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with UNICEF or another United Nations agency or international non-governmental organization a plus.
  • Experience working in the field is an asset.

Language Requirements

Fluency in Portuguese and proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish will be considered as an asset.
