JOB SUMMARY
Your tasks
- You assist the department in managing and pooling available knowledge, analytical data about themes and topics to be tabled in international discussions of the AU and at the global level
- You support the exchange and communication with stakeholders in Africa and internationally
- You facilitate consultations, meetings, and deliberations on harmonization African common positions
- You provide analytical and technical support to the AU Commission in relation to key issues
- You strengthen technical capacity in drafting African positions in close cooperation with AU Members States and Regional Economic Communities (RECs)
- You support the liaising with relevant stakeholders, e.g., multilateral, and regional organizations, the community of development partners, international networks, as well as civil society
- You provide technical assistance to the AU senior leadership in meetings and negotiations at the global level
- You will manage the staff in your section in accordance with GIZ’s understanding of leadership and will cultivate appreciative leadership
Your profile
- A Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Development Studies, International Trade and Investment Law, International Economics or equivalent from a recognized university
- Longstanding professional experience in national public institutions of an AU member state or an African regional/continental organization working on relevant public policy issues
- Proven experience in negotiations and coordination at an international level; proven management, research and consulting on African issues, communication and networking skills, a high level of commitment, reliability and team spirit
- Strong administrative skills, as well as a high level of proficiency in using software applications, especially MS Office 365
- Strong technical knowledge of current trends in Africa / key public policy issues
- Strong ability for conceptual and analytical thinking, quick grasp of new concepts and a high attention to details
- Excellent diplomatic and intercultural skills, competence in gender diversity management and the proven ability to act competently and prudently in a politically sensitive environment; a high level of discretion in handling sensitive issues
- Business fluent in English and working proficiency in French; knowledge of another official language of the African Union is a distinct advantage
