POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Investment Operations and Risk Management reports to the Chief Investment Officer but will also work closely with the rest of the investment team, members of the finance team, and members of the Philanthropies team on mission-related investments. This position is responsible for leading the operations and risk management of the Church’s endowment including the development and oversight of internal systems and controls, financial planning and forecasting processes, asset allocation analysis, liquidity models and cash flow analysis, risk exposure and scenario analysis, performance reporting and accounting, cash management, and operational due diligence of external investment managers and providers.

The annual salary range for this position is $275,500 to $322,800.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support cash flow monitoring, rebalancing opportunity discussion, and existing manager oversight, and cross team knowledge sharing.
  • Manage relationships with back office counterparts at Trinity’s custodian, investment managers and other external investment service providers for cash management, accounting, quality control and discrepancy management related to investment operations and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain models related to liquidity, private equity pacing, and exposure analysis and management, including relevant scenario analysis, that take into account the Church’s diversified investment portfolio and significant allocation to direct real estate.
  • Work with the investment team to model the risk and return of Trinity’s endowment assets to assist in the recommendation and regular review of the strategic asset allocation for Trinity’s investment portfolio.
  • Oversee, review and, as needed, develop policies and procedures related to day-to-day investment operations, monthly and quarterly investment reporting, and annual audits.
  • Coordinate across Investments, Philanthropies and Finance teams to track mission investments portfolio, including cash flows, performance, invoicing, liquidity, exposures, and risk.
  • Work with Trinity’s Finance team to produce annual financial statement related to Trinity’s portfolios as well as to support the coordination of any tax filings and foreign transaction reporting related to the investment portfolio.
  • Measure, monitor and manage investment and operational risk in Trinity’s endowment, including selecting and/or creating portfolio analytical tools to support the investment team’s understanding of both manager-specific and cross-endowment performance and risk characteristics.
  • Conduct operational due diligence on Trinity’s managers.
  • Help train more junior team members on operations, portfolio analytics and risk assessment.
  • Work with Chief Investment Officer to develop annual budgets for Investments Team.
  • Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity Wall Street policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner that promotes Trinity’s mission and core values.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES

  • Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with databases and spreadsheets, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively and accurately.
  • General knowledge of endowment or a similar complex institutional investment portfolio operations and procedures.
  • A collegial work style and a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a small, entrepreneurial team.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

  • BS in Finance or related field and CPA, CFA or MBA beneficial.
  • At least 7 years work experience with the operations, reporting or accounting for an institutional, multi-asset portfolio.
  • Experience working with and analyzing real estate investments a plus.
