Context/Reporting line:

Under the overall supervision of the Protection Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the Protection Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring direct implementation of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) activities in Iraq.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities

  1. Support the Protection Officer in the coordination meetings of the VAWG working group in KRI and National Working Group to Combat Violence against Women & Girls in Federal Iraq.
  2. Assist the Protection Officer in co-leading the Online Violence Working Group in KRI, which includes following up with the members and taking meeting notes.
  3. Contribute to the drafting of internal and external reports and VAWG analysis, safety audits and trends, according to IOM and donors’ requirements ensuring that reports are of high quality and submitted in a timely manner.
  4. Support other units in IOM on VAWG risk mitigation under the overall guidance of the Protection Officer. Contribute to the design and implementation of VAWG prevention, risk mitigation and response interventions in line with IOM’s Global Framework for Addressing VAWG in crisis
  5. Maintain constructive relationships with community leaders, local government counterparts, and service providers involved in the areas of focus (VAWG) and according to IOM protection standards and principles.
  1. Work closely with IOM Implementing Partners (IPs) and provide regular support to implement quality VAWG programs while enforcing compliance with, and integrity of, all protection standard operating procedures for VAWG as well as the VAWG minimum standards and Guiding Principles.
  1. Engage with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), grassroots organizations, and government actors to identify their needs for VAWG capacity building and facilitating the discussion of transitioning aid to local actors.
  2. Identify staff needs related to technical capacity and provide training and workshops on VAWG topics to other protection and non-protection workers within IOM.
  3. Prioritize and address all VAWG high risk cases according to IOM VAWG case management SOPs.
  4. Supervise the correct documentation and compilation of VAWG CM forms in accordance with all CM steps and related tools and procedure and ensure proper follow up on case management services.
  5. Provide guidance and support to the protection team through leading assessments, VAWG activities and protection monitoring in areas of return and/or camp settings.
  6. Participate in the Mission’s Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) efforts by adhere PSEA guidelines and support PSEA focal with survivor/victim assistance
  7. Promote and facilitate gender and protection mainstreaming and disability inclusion within all project activities.
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education:

  • University degree in related field from an accredited academic university or institution with 4 years of relevant professional experience, or
  • Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution with 6 years relevant professional experience.

Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in the field of VAWG or women rights and empowerment.
  • Prior experience in working with VAWG survivors on protection and direct assistance.
  • Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of actors, including people of culturally diverse backgrounds, government and authorities, humanitarian actors (UN agencies and NGOs).
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, efficient, high level of professionalism, organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Good analytical skills, strong eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in case management, Counter Trafficking, AVRR, and/or VAWG, or other protection programming (required).
  • Experience in managing and/or implementing projects.
  • Experience in delivering Protection and/or VAWG training to internal and external audiences (required).
  • Good written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties (required).
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills (required).
  • Flexibility in working overtime when needed (required).
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word and Excel, and PowerPoint) (required).
  • Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions (required).

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English, Kurdish (Badini or Sorani) and English.
