About the opportunity

As an Integrated Family Services Specialist Disability Practitioner, you will work with vulnerable families with complex disabilities and support needs. You will work with other service providers and support networks to enhance relationships, parenting skills and overall wellbeing and safety of children within the families. In this role, you will support families to transition into the NDIS and to navigate the system ensuring timely access to disability supports.

In a typical day as a Specialist Disability Practitioner, you might:

  • Use a creative approach to arrange a visit with a reluctant new family.
  • Build rapport to carry out a strengths and risk assessment in the client’s home or child’s school.
  • Support a family with understanding their NDIS plan and funded supports.
  • Review with your supervisor plans to support a family’s goals.
  • Consult with Child Protection, the NDIS or Allied health professionals.

About you

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in human services, disability, welfare, social work desirable however relevant experience will be considered.
  • A Current eligible motor vehicle license to drive in Australia.
  • Excellent knowledge of the NDIS and disability support needs.
  • Case management experience and understanding of the issues that impact children, youth, and their families.
  • A sound knowledge of the underlying principles of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the statutory requirements related to working with young people and their families.
  • Experience working with young people and families.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
