Mission and objectives

The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development. ESCWA’s objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries. ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory. ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Context

This assignment involves managing a project aimed at enhancing MSMEs’ soft infrastructure and internationalization in the Arab region. The project includes developing training content, organizing regional training events, and creating an e-commerce portal, with the goal of empowering MSMEs and creating an enabling environment for their growth and resilience.

Task description

1. Create a comprehensive project plan outlining all actions, timelines, and resources.

2. Establish milestones and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress.

3. Hire and manage consultants to develop training content for e-commerce, formalization, and internationalization.

4. Plan and execute a regional Training of Trainers for national partners.

5. Ensure the participation of selected trainers and manage their travel and accommodation logistics.

6. Organize and manage the participation of SMEs and policy makers in the ASMES event.

7. Oversee the design and development of the e-commerce portal.

8. Appoint and manage an e-commerce coordinator for ongoing maintenance and operations.

9. Plan and facilitate annual in-person national events for policy makers in each target country.

10. Track the project budget and ensure expenditures are within the allocated amounts.

11. Provide regular updates on project progress to stakeholders and document all activities.

12. Maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders and address issues promptly.

Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.

Required education level

Master degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Public Relations, Social Work, Community Development, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Public Health, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or Communication Studies is required.
