Position Overview
FP2030 is a global partnership of governments, civil society, multilateral organizations, donors, private sector partners, and researchers committed to supporting people’s right to voluntary, quality contraception. Our vision is a future where everyone, everywhere has the freedom and ability to lead healthy lives, make their own informed decisions about using contraception and having children, and participate as equals in society and its development.
The FP2030 Support Network consists of five regional hubs: North, West and Central Africa; East and Southern Africa; Asia and the Pacific; and Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America and Europe, led by an Executive Director, supported by an Executive Directorate team, who reports to the Governing Board. Each Regional Hub is headed by a Managing Director supported by a small team and hosted by an NGO within the region. Together, these five business units comprise the FP2030 Support Network.
The Communications Intern will support the FP2030 Global Communications team with a variety of projects, including social media outreach and the monthly newsletter.
This is a paid opportunity and offers a rate of $17.50/hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelor’s degree program; and $20/hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program.
Essential Functions
The Communications and Advocacy intern will primarily support the Communications and the Advocacy, Accountability and Partnerships (AAP) team with potential to support other portfolios based on interest and capacity.
- Assist the FP2030 team in tracking current events and updates related to global health, development, family planning, or sexual and reproductive health.
- Track webinars and other external events for the partnership and attend webinars for notetaking as relevant.
- Support the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator in creating posts for the FP2030 Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
- Support the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator in managing FP2030’s social media presence.
- Assist the FP2030 team in conducting research and writing to contribute to various projects, including global events and convenings.
- Assist in the creation of core communications products, such as the FP2030 newsletter, video projects, and blog posts, etc.
- Support the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator with the upkeep and organization of the commitments database.
- Provide logistical support for FP2030 webinars and other meetings.
- Support the AAP team with the Non-Governmental Actor Commitment Making Process.
- Support the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator in the progress of key FP2030 global partnerships.
- Support the Communications and AAP teams during internal and external meetings with detailed notetaking and action items.
- Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
- Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
- Passion for sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially for family planning, and/or international development.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
- Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
- Background in international development/global health/communications/journalism preferred.
- Must be available to work a maximum of 24 hours per week.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- This position will report to the Senior Manager, Communications with support from the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator.
