COMMUNITY AFFAIRS INTERN
The Community Affairs Unit of the Division for Historic Preservation (DHP) works closely with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the Bureau of Historic Sites and Parks, located at Peebles Island State Park, to amplify awareness of the Division within and beyond the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP). This includes activating agency initiatives, supporting special events and programs, and crafting communications.
The Community Affairs Intern will provide research, writing, and logistical support for a variety of projects including, but not limited to:
- the NYS Historic Business Preservation Registry program, the NYS Historic Preservation Awards, and updating digital and print historic preservation informational materials.
- Primary tasks will include researching, writing, and editing historic preservation information; assisting with event planning; and communicating with agency staff and members of the public.
- Strong candidates will understand the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing and will have experience working on collaborative projects.
- All candidates should demonstrate excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills; show strong computer and online literacy; have good time management; be creative; and possess the ability to communicate in a professional manner.
This is a paid internship, with the possibility of offering academic credit as well. The intern will work on-site at the Division for Historic Preservation offices at Peebles Island State Park in Waterford, NY.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $20.94 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
