About the Organisation

Established on July 1st, 2015, the Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) is an Australian Government initiative dedicated to ‘building one, world-class health system for the Gold Coast’, with strategic goals to:

  • Improve coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time;
  • Increase efficiency and effectiveness of health services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes;
  • Engage and support general practice and other stakeholders to facilitate improvements in the local health system; and
  • Be a high performing, efficient and accountable organisation

About the Clinical Council

The federal government requires Primary Health Networks (PHNs) to maintain a GP-led Clinical Advisory Council made up of individuals who represent general practice and other health professionals, including but not limited to doctors, specialists, nurses, allied and community health professionals, First Nations health workers and hospital executives.

The purpose of the Clinical Council is to ensure that influential recommendations and advice from a clinical perspective is presented to the Board, informing the best possible decisions on health and primary/community-based care to improve health outcomes in accordance with the strategic intent of the PHN.

The Clinical Council assists the PHN to develop local strategies to improve the operation of the primary health care system for patients, including advising on issues that can influence the Board’s deliberations and decisions to better meet unique needs of their communities.

The Board of the GCPHN are currently seeking nominations from local Health Clinicians to fill six vacancies for the GCPHN Clinical Council. The term of appointment is 2 years.

About the Opportunity

Member nominations currently being sought include:

  • First Nations Health Worker
  • Nurse – Aged Care, General Practice or Community
  • Specialist or hospital-based clinician
  • Pharmacist
  • General Practitioner – Practice Owner
  • General Practitioner – Employed / Contractor

Interested clinicians will ideally have considerable experience in the primary health care sector and interest in a range of clinical areas, including but not limited to population health, First Nations health, aged care, mental health, chronic disease, women’s and children’s health, drug and alcohol. They must be currently working in their field on the Gold Coast.

Meetings are generally held every quarter (face to face) or as required to support organisational needs. Meetings are held at our Robina office after business hours and run for approximately 2-3 hours in duration (6:30pm-8:30pm), depending on agenda requirements.

Remuneration

Members of the Clinical Council are remunerated in accordance with the current organisational sitting fee policy.

Selection Criteria

Members will require the following attributes to support them in achieving the Clinical Council’s purpose and responsibilities:

  • The ability to make sensible, astute decisions and recommendations on clinical governance matters with a perspective of future opportunities and risks;
  • Must be registered with AHPRA (with the exception of a Health Worker appointee) and actively practising within the Gold Coast PHN boundaries;
  • The ability to assess complex primary health care issues and develop appropriate strategies;
  • The ability to promote a culture that implements best practice based on clinical evidence and in the context of finite health resources;
  • The ability to give consideration to the diverse needs of the Gold Coast community across different professions and populations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in primary health care in the Gold Coast region;
  • Be a strategic thinker, visionary and have the ability to take a whole of system view;
  • The ability to actively contribute and challenge in a group environment;
  • Integrity and a high standing in the community and amongst their peers; and
  • The ability to commit to quarterly meetings and out-of-session work, as required.
