This unclassified, full-time position is located at the Pratt Fish Hatchery, Fisheries and Wildlife Division; and is directly supervised by Mike Hassler, Assistant Hatchery Manager. 

The incumbent is responsible for repairs and maintenance on plumbing, electrical that includes 110v up to 3 phase 480V, basic carpentry, and mechanical systems associated with the Pratt Fish Hatchery; system components include a variety of pumps, natural gas and gas generators, filtration, valves, alarm, aeration components, water treatment, lift station and sewage system, all road vehicles and motorized equipment; maintains records on components requiring scheduled maintenance and vehicle maintenance and usage reports; maintains grounds to include pond dikes, fish harvest kettles, raceways, lawn and landscaping, roads, all hatchery buildings, water tower; responsible for general inspection and maintenance of these structures, to include required plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, dirt work, concrete work, and welding; constructs, fabricates and modifies fish culture equipment; operates welder, cutting torch, plasma cutter, carpentry tools and associated power and hand tools; assists with routine fish culture duties on a frequent basis which includes activities such as fish feeding, harvest, fish distribution or related activities; conducts or assists with other specialized work assignments on and off the culture facility, as assigned by the hatchery manager; participates in Department educational endeavors, fishing clinics, or work at other fish production facilities; serves as lead worker for seasonal/temporary employees or federally funded work program participants assigned to maintenance projects. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.  Preference will be given to applicants with experience in mechanical, building, electrical trades.  Education may be substituted for experience as determined by the agency.  Prefer candidates who possess a working knowledge of facilities/infrastructure maintenance to include intermediate experience in electrical, construction, welding, and plumbing trades; working knowledge of fish culture/handling; an extensive first-hand experience for institutional facility upkeep and maintenance, and basic understanding of noxious weed control.  The successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license and pass a background check.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidate will be required to earn and maintain a Kansas Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or License from reciprocating state within one year of employment.
