Job Summary:

Oregon Sea Grant is seeking an Undergraduate Program Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Undergraduate Program Coordinator serves within Oregon Sea Grant (OSG ) at Oregon State University and reports to the OSG Associate Director for Research and Scholars. This position exists to support work in Oregon Sea Grant’s (OSG ) Research and Scholars Team pertaining to the recruitment and management of undergraduate host and scholar applications and positions, the Summer Scholars Program, and compliance with the EPA grant funded Pollution Prevention internship program, the Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience (OASE ). The Research and Scholars Team also includes the Program Coordinator, with occasional assistance by post-graduate fellows. Additional work may support broader program outcomes for competitive research proposals and projects, program development, and graduate student fellowship applications and positions, as well as advancing the overall OSG Strategic Plan.

Based at OSU since 1971, OSG is one of 34 Sea Grant College Programs established by Congress as a partnership between universities and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA ). Through an integrated program of research, extension and education, our mission is to spark discovery, understanding, and collaboration to foster healthy, inclusive, and resilient coastal communities and ecosystems (seagrant.oregonstate.edu). OSG funds research projects, manages fellowships and internships, and implements Extension and education programs to address issues of importance to coastal communities and ecosystems. The program operates the Hatfield Visitor Center, a public marine science museum/aquarium, and K-12 educational programs, at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, OR.

Key Responsibilities

  • 70% Coordinate recruitment, selection, and placement for OSG’s undergraduate programs 
  • 10% Support Oregon Sea Grant projects and work groups 
  • 10% Grant management and compliance

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine or environmental sciences, natural resource management, public policy, public administration, resource economics or a related field that gives the candidate a firm basis in the physical and social sciences, or with policy/administration; OR 4 years of professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years of experience with an undergraduate-level internship or comparable program with progressive responsibility for project, management, compliance monitoring and overall coordination, including outreach to various audiences
  • Experience writing, preparing, packaging and submitting grants, including developing and writing budgets and budget justifications
  • At least 2 years of experience with natural resource issues such as pollution prevention and working with communities
  • Sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and demonstrated experience balancing multiple, complex projects and deadlines
  • Experience working and communicating effectively with diverse teams and partners
  • Experience with coordinating meetings or events
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in a work or volunteer setting.

This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030 et seq. 

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • Experience in inclusive mentoring practices
  • Familiarity with Oregon state institutions and policies
  • Social media proficiency (ex. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, developing and posting web content)
  • Knowledge of pollution prevention, toxic use reduction, materials management, green chemistry, and coastal and marine issues and communities

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Standard office hours with occasional travel to OSG meetings and to visit OASE and Summer Scholar students and hosts.
