COOPI in IRAQ

COOPI is active with its humanitarian action in Iraq since 2017.  Currently COOPI is implementing education, protection (CP and GBV) and livelihood and social cohesion programs in Nineve, Kirkuk, Dohuk and Salah Al Din funded by AICS and UNICEF. The Country Administrator will join COOPI team in Erbil office

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Engineer designs, coordinates and supervises all the activities related to the shelter rehabilitation and improvement for People with Disabilities. She/he will also organize the overall schedule for each contractor, supplier, or cash for work beneficiaries, monitoring the achievements through works’ reports, coordinate with the case managers to ensure the needed services are performed in accordance with the required and agreed progress and standards. The Civil Engineer will report directly to the Project Manager.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Work closely with the protection team and the Physiotherapist in order to evaluate the shelter improvement needs for each beneficiary.
  • Conduct field visit to identify and design the needed rehabilitation/shelter improvement
  • Prepare bill of quantities and plans related to the rehabilitation/civil works.
  • Supervise directly the execution of the rehabilitation/civil works and provide technical guidance and expertise
  • Prepare and submit work reports to the Project Manager using the appropriate templates as per request and schedule.
  • Network/partner with local authorities and relevant stakeholders to ensure standards, regulations and procedures are in line with Governmental bodies
  • Final quality and quantity control and preparation of hand over certificates
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in accordance with the position

 

Tentative schedule:

Target: The Engineer supposed to target rehabilitation for 15-20 shelters.

Duty: 2 days working per week

Duration: 2 months with possible extension based on needs, starting on October/ November 2024.

Qualifications & Preferred skills:

  • University degree in civil engineering or equivalent practical field experience, preferably with a humanitarian organization.
  • at least 2 years of experience in humanitarian organizations, especially the shelter related sectors, experience in dealing with people with disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian emergency operating context, the humanitarian system and its flexibility, donors and their high demands, security and financial management in humanitarian context.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with attention to details.
  • Computer (excel) and admin/finance skills.
  • Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission, and vision of COOPI.
  • Strong team spirit, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work and adapt in different environments and travel to the project’s location regularly.
  • Languages:

Kurdish, English language (written and oral): mandatory

Arabic: desirable
