The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently assists displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Mae Hong Son provinces

Job Overview/Summary:

Legal Service Officer bases in MaeSot will work closely with Senior Legal Officer in facilitating legal and protection case management in Tak Province. The legal Service Officer will implement case action plan agree from case worker and direct communicate with client including provide translation support for legal and protection case management.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Accompanied client of legal/protection case management throughout case management process.
  2. Fill data in case management form to update progress of legal/protection case management and timely report to Senior Legal Officer and Senior Protection Project Manager for Access to Justice for any issue impact to client.
  3. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and local service provide to provide support to client of legal/protection case management as per case management action plan.
  4. Coordinating and providing technical support to with camp base assistance for assignment assign from Protection and Legal Program.
  5. Work closely with Senior Legal Officer in collecting data and entry data related to case management in IRC’s case management database.
  6. Work closely with Senior Legal Officer in organizing and maintaining documents of legal/protection case management in a paper or electronic filing system.
  7. Assist in translation and interpretation for case management process.
  8. Assist in translation and interpretation for events or activities of protection and empowerment Program.
  9. Represent IRC positively and professionally in both internal and external meetings and events.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Senior Legal Officer

Position directly supervises:N/A

Indirect Reporting: Senior Protection Manager for Access to Justice

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Staff of Protection and Empowerment Program, Field Coordinators, Finance Departments, and Operations Department.External:UNHCR, local authorities in Tak Province

Job Requirements:

Education: At least High School Diploma and/or higher education level.

Work Experience: Minimum of one year experience in translation and interpretation in Karen, Burmese, and Thai on protection issues and access to justice and demonstrated experiences related to legal case management.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to handle multi-tasking and sensitive issues.
  • Knowledge of displaced persons both in and outside camp situations
  • Able to travel regularly to the refugee camps and along and across the Thai- Myanmar borders
  • Experience in management documentation, filing and basic database software.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in human right, basic Thai law and situation of displaced persons.
  • Computer literate. including Microsoft Office.

Language Skills: Demonstrated good reading, written and spoken Burmese, Karen and Thai. Working knowledge of English is an advantage.

Working Environment:

This position will work in the office in Mae Sot and the office in Tak camps mainly regularly working in different places outside camps while providing legal and case management services however will travel to other IRC offices and camps in MHS, Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi
