Why this role?

As one of our Senior Community Development Officers (SCDO), you will play a pivotal role in building the capacity of local communities to address drug and alcohol-related harm. You will be a key member of our team delivering our Good Sports and Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) programs, proactively developing and maintaining relationships with participants and supporting their engagement.

As a confident public speaker, you will have the opportunity to facilitate community forums and workshops, as well as represent the ADF at various external events and expositions.

Here’s a taste of what your daily activities will look like:

  • Deliver ADF programs in line with established policies, procedures and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant community and program stakeholders including community sporting clubs, leagues and associations, local councils and community health services.
  • Proactively and confidently engage with program stakeholders including online, in-person, phone and email.
  • Effectively plan and deliver activity such that program/project targets and key performance indicators are met.
  • Proactively identify and engage with community sports clubs that would benefit from the Good Sports program, including through cold calling and organised club visits.
  • Support LDATs to develop a Community Action Plan (CAP), outlining prevention activities to be delivered and evaluated.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is deeply passionate about community engagement and development, with a commitment to what we do here at the ADF. You will be personable, interactive and enjoy meeting new people and fostering relationships. Your drive to make a difference, confidence building new stakeholder connections and ability to meet targets will be essential for this position.

Key experiences and skills that will set you up for success include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, health promotion or related field, or demonstrated experience in a community development role.
  • Awareness of community AOD issues, harm reduction and harm minimisation approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating health promotion, AOD or similar community-based programs.
  • Demonstrated experience and confidence facilitating group workshops and presentations.
  • An ability to self-motivate, plan effectively and meet Key Performance Indicators.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • A current driver’s license and vehicle is a requirement for this role. Some interstate travel to Wollongong/South Coast NSW region will be required.
