Overview

Position title: Learning Experience Designer
Hourly rate: $37.50 – $38.76
Reports to: Learning Experience Design Manager
Hours: Part-time (17.5 hours/week)
Duration: until March 31, 2025.
Location: Hybrid (Mostly remote/ NYCH and Community locations)

Position Summary

Working with the Learning Experience Design Manager, the Learning Experience Designer will support the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of online learning experiences tailored for settlement workers, ensuring their high quality and effectiveness.

The role will involve supporting the Journeys to Active Citizenship project, a five-year program that focuses on building civic engagement programming for and with immigrants and refugees.

Main Responsibilities

Using inclusive and evidence-based learning frameworks, the Learning Experience Designer is responsible for the following activities:

Learning design

  • Create learner personas and learning journey maps based on the analysis and research
  • Develop learner-centered outcomes for various online learning experiences that align with overall program goals
  • Design online activities and relevant assessment tools that consider diverse types of learners

Production and implementation

  • Develop plans and create e-learning that consider learners with diverse abilities
  • Craft clear, concise, and culturally sensitive content specifically tailored for settlement workers.
  • Develop engaging scenarios, case studies, and practical exercises that are directly applicable to their daily responsibilities and challenges.
  • Assist in developing accessible multimedia learning content (e.g., videos, slide decks, worksheets, other resources)
  • Support in testing developed online learning experiences with various stakeholders

Quality assurance

  • Develop evaluation processes and tools for online learning experiences
  • Evaluate, create report of the successes and challenges of online learning experiences to the stakeholders
  • Review feedback from the stakeholders and revise online learning experiences in collaboration with internal team members and evaluators

Education

A degree/education that is relevant to the position, preferably in instructional design or educational technology.
Or the equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience working in the non-profit sector

Experience and Skills

  • 3+ years work experience in instructional design
  • Experience in applying adult learning principles and instructional design models (ADDIE) in developing online learning experiences
  • Ability to create engaging and effective online learning experiences tailored to adult learners.
  • Understanding of learning theories, curriculum development, and assessment strategies.
  • Skills in writing clear, concise, and culturally sensitive content that resonates with settlement workers.
  • Experience in creating scenarios, case studies, and practical exercises relevant to settlement workers’ work.
  • Experience in developing/implementing evaluation processes and tools for online learning programs
  • Knowledge of UX principles to design intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that enhance learner engagement and retention.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and strategies on implementing its principles
  • Designing and developing scenario-based eLearning is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, applying principles of civic engagement is an asset
  • Experience working with diverse communities, including people from diverse cultures, levels of ability and education, and language groups
  • Strong understanding of common issues faced by newcomers and ability to communicate them effectively for different stakeholders
  • Proven experience in working in teams in a respectful and inclusive manner
  • Proven experience in handling multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with Learning Management System (LMS), specifically Moodle in instructional design, course development, and/or curriculum development (Moodle Educator Certification an asset)
  • Ability to stay updated with the latest trends in e-learning and quickly adapt to new tools and technologies.
  • Familiarity with H5P, Articulate Rise and 360, and Vyond is an asset

Other Requirements

  • May be required to carry laptop computer, cell phone and/or materials and supplies to different locations
    Documented proof of a valid police reference check is required for employment at NYCH, as well as an annual declaration.
  • Works 17.5 hours per week, with some possible flexibility around working hours.
  • Blended model (working partly on-site at NYCH locations & other community sites and partly remotely. Most work will be remote).
