Job description

SMEs contribute significantly to Mongolia’s gross domestic product (GDP) and job creation, although the mining sector remains the primary source of the country’s exports. Government reform efforts are focused on diversifying the economy by expanding agricultural value chains, promoting tourism, light industry, and other sectors. The GIZ project ‘Improved Conditions for Economic Diversification’ (ICED) funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims to support the Mongolian government in enhancing investment and export promotion opportunities for companies in non-mining sectors. 

Your tasks

  • Supporting staff of the project partner Ulaanbaatar SMEs Support center in the development and implementation of training and consulting programs
  • Conducting foreign market analyses for up to three countries within the EU, and identifying up to five promising Mongolian products for export
  • Providing training, guidance, and promotion to selected SMEs for exporting their products, based on the above mentioned market analyses
  • Enhancing the training and consulting capabilities of Ulaanbaatar SMEs Support center staff in relation to export and export promotion
  • Assisting the staff in enhancing the services offered by the Ulaanbaatar SMEs Support center to SMEs and in further tasks agreed jointly in the Terms of Reference (ToR)

Your profile

  • University degree in economics and/or MBA
  • Several years of experience and expertise in SME and economic development in the development cooperation context
  • Experience in the field of organisational development
  • High intercultural sensitivity, empathy, ability to work in a team and patience
  • Excellent oral and written communication and facilitation skills
  • Fluency in English and/or German

Location information

We are pleased to offer you a first impression on topics such as climate, shopping and services, the school situation and health care in Mongolia.

You willwork on provincial/local level during business trips, in an environment with strong continental weather conditions. 

In general, the security situation is calm. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. A contact person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. Please note that the general and personal living conditions in the country of assignment may meet with different legal and social acceptance. We gladly support you with our many years of experience.

At the site of operation, the particulate pollution occurs to be many time higher than the European acceptable limit. As part of the selection process and during the recruitment examination you will be informed of appropriate protective and behavioral measures.
