The Student Retention Team plays a critical role in our approach to supporting and retaining students. The purpose of this role is to support the Head of Student Retention in the leadership and day-to-day management of the Student Retention Team. Reporting directly to the Head of Student Retention, you will help to ensure the Student Retention Team delivers the highest levels of student support necessary to engage students with poor attendance and facilitate their smooth reintegration with their studies. You will deputise for the Dean as and when required, working with both internal, and occasionally external stakeholders.

  • To support the Head of Retention in both the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Student Retention team.
  • To represent the Student Retention team with internal and external stakeholders, and deputise for the Head of Student Retention, as required.
  • To line manage the Senior Retention Managers ensuring that appropriate KPIs are set, monitored and reported.
  • To work proactively with faculties and operational departments to ensure student retention is managed effectively.
  • To work proactively with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure students remain engaged with their studies.
  • Working with faculties and registry, to ensure students with poor attendance are supported to return to classes, or suspended or withdrawn, in a timely fashion, in line with GBS’s own and partner requirements.
  • To work with faculties to ensure at risk students are supported to submit or resubmit their assessments.
  • To collate and analyse data pertaining to student retention and prepare reports and give presentations to senior managers as required.
  • To ensure appropriate records are kept in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • To mentor members of the Student Retention team and ensure that appropriate training is provided to staff in the Student Retention team.
  • To ensure staff and faculty work within the appropriate professional framework and guidelines when dealing with non-attending students in the efforts to re-engage them.
  • To manage staff performance, including conducting annual performance reviews of staff in the Student Retention Team.
  • Provide an annual and periodic reviews of student retention services, highlighting the impact on student progression and completion of courses.
  • Substantial, relevant experience within student retention and support.
  • Preferably educated to at least Master level or equivalent with knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice, you will have previous experience of working with students in higher education, specifically with mature students.
  • You will have strong communication skills and an ability to adapt messages for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way.
  • You’ll be able to plan and prioritise effectively to achieve objectives, work collaboratively in a team and build and maintain positive relationships with students.
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Attention to detail is a must as well as strong organizational skills.
