Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is based in the Office of the Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza. On 22 December 2023, the Security Council adopted resolution 2720 (2023), requesting the Secretary-General, with the objective of expediting the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, to appoint expeditiously a Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator with responsibility for facilitating, coordinating, monitoring, and verifying in Gaza, as appropriate, the humanitarian nature of all humanitarian relief consignments to Gaza provided through states which are not party to the conflict, and further requesting that the Coordinator expeditiously establish a UN mechanism for accelerating the provision of humanitarian relief consignments to Gaza through states which are not party to the conflict, consulting all relevant parties, with the goal of expediting, streamlining, and accelerating the process of providing assistance while continuing to help ensure that aid reaches its civilian destination, and demanding that the parties to the conflict cooperate with the Coordinator to fulfill their mandate without delay or obstruction. This temporary job opening is being published for the position of Driver/Clerk, based in Cairo, Egypt. Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff, the incumbent reports to the Head of Administration Unit.
Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Administration Unit, the Driver/Clerk will perform the following duties and responsibilities; Provision of reliable and secure driving services; • Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by driving the office vehicles to transport authorized personnel and staff, delivery, and collection of mail, documents, and other items as required. • Pick up and drop off the staff during all working days and drive them on official trips in and outside the city as directed by the direct supervisor and according to the security and UN rule and procedures. • Remain flexible for traveling outside the city and working additional working hours if required. • Full compliance with the implementation of all security measures for the passengers and the Vehicle during all trips regardless of the location or the destination of travel. • Follow all traffic rules, regulations, and laws at all times. • Report immediately to the direct supervisor of any accidents, or mechanical failure occurring. • Use radio communication and carry out tasks as directed by the supervisors and remain vigilant and professional all the time. Proper use of vehicle and Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle; • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicles through: • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely oil changes, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc, as recommended by the supervisor. • Accurate maintenance of daily vehicles, and provision of inputs to preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports. • Maintain accurate vehicle logbook records with all information. • Knowledge of Economic Driving (Eco – Driving) Availability of documents/ supplies. • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts. • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents. Administration and operation support • Provision of administrative and logistical support. • Provision of support for office maintenance and asset management, physical inventory verification exercise by checking the accuracy of records and asset’s location. • Ensures office files are maintained accurately. • Ensures availability of adequate office supplies in the office and maintains a system for allocation and tracking. • Performs a variety of administrative duties including (leave recording, organize for meetings and event reservations, office supply and equipment orders, etc), • Prepares and/ or processing administrative requests/ documents (travel requests, expense claims, vouchers, etc). • Support in the office petty cash transactions and prepare documents for petty cash replenishment. • As required, assists in providing services to facilities during events (meetings, workshops, training) • Assists in the computation and preparation of overtime and related records. • Assists in visits preparations including accommodation and venue booking and meeting arrangements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressive and responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles is required. Experience working with the United Nations Common System, a comparable international and/or non-governmental organization, or with embassies is desirable. Experience driving civilian armored vehicles is desirable. Experience in the basic use of computers and relevant office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and the ability to use web-based management and electronic log, file, and/or scheduling systems is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

• This is a project-funded post. This temporary position is currently available through 31 October 2024, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds. • The contract will be administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on behalf of OCHA. • This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. This position is a General Service position and will be based in Jerusalem, occupied Palestinian territories.
