Job Summary 

Do you enjoy working with people and California native plants? Consider applying for the Coastal Watershed Council’s seasonal restoration technician position! This part-time position (up to 12 hours per week) reports to CWC’s River Ecologist and includes field-based restoration activities and volunteer events along the San Lorenzo River. Specific activities may include controlling invasive species, planting native seeds, maintaining project sites, vegetation monitoring, and assisting volunteers before, during, and after volunteer restoration events. This position will represent CWC to the public and communicate findings to preserve and protect coastal watersheds, while teaching youth and adults of all backgrounds about the importance of rivers, creeks and watersheds to our daily lives and inspiring people to take action to improve watershed health. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Implement and measure habitat restoration activities including native seed installation andmaintenance, and invasive species removal. 
  • Lead diverse volunteers in restoration activities at the San Lorenzo River, including peopleexperiencing homelessness. 
  • Implement safety protocols, including field safety and public health protocols.
  • Communicate quickly and effectively with supervisor regarding any field related and relevant information such as: equipment needs, interpersonal difficulties, comfort level with tasks, concerns for safety, public relations with greater community. 
  • Understand limitations in the field and execute tasks to the best of your ability.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.
  • Keep workspaces clean, safe and organized.
  • Maintain a daily record of activities.

Education & Experience (required): 

  • Minimum one (1) years’ experience in related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (required): 

  • Ability to work with diverse volunteers using facilitation and group management techniques,

including de-escalation, trauma-informed care and/or similar skills. 

  • Self-directed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (preferred): 

  • Knowledge or ability to learn habitat restoration techniques and native flora and fauna
  • Ability to lead volunteer outings in English and Spanish.
  • Flexibility

Additional Information: 

Direct Reports: None 

Travel Requirements: Minimal 

License and Certification Requirements: California Class C Driver’s License and proof of a good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) years duration.
