PSS / Social Worker

 

Main Purpose

 

The PSS / Social Worker implements activities and/or trainings in INTERSOS centers and outreach working directly with women, men, youth and children in line with Intersos Community based PSS guidelines under the Leadership of the MHPSS Field Officer

 

Reporting to:

Hierarchical: MHPSS Field Officer

Functional: MHPSS Field Officer

 

Tasks

Generic Duties:

  • Conduct a daily variety of structured and non-structured activities (recreational and psychosocial) within the center or outside, catering to the needs of the affected population with different ages and genders and accordingly to the center activities weekly schedule;
  • Conduct peer-led focus groups discussions, informal skill training and awareness sessions with children, youth, men and women, accordingly to the center activities weekly schedule;
  • Support the MHPSS Field Officer and the MHPSS Field Manager in the development of contextualized and culturally embedded awareness materials
  • Manage and lead Community groups like Child Clubs, Youth Clubs and Women’s clubs and work along with the MHPSS Field Officer in the community centers
  • Facilitate the participation of all the segments of the target population to the planned activities held at the assigned center, notably the most vulnerable ones (refugees, local community, youth, women, elderly, minority members, people with disabilities etc.), ensuring that proper attention is paid to specific emotional and physical needs;
  • Be responsible for and Engage the volunteers in the planned socio-recreational activities held at the assigned center;
  • Maintain daily attendance registers and a weekly and monthly inventory sheets for each activity conducted and report the same to the MHPSS Field Officer;
  • Maintain and fill properly any distribution list or attendance lists for the activities conducted or the distribution done, under the supervision of the MHPSS Field Officer
  • Informs the supervisors about any difficulty met in INTERSOS activities implementation;
  • Be up to date about all new information sent by Protection Coordinator or the PM concerning the project, the context and the beneficiaries;
  • Be available to participate in meetings and trainings in and outside the centers and/or in Intersos office when requested;
  • Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or the PM.

Reporting:

  • Provide daily basic information about project activities and report on a weekly basis to the MHPSS Field Officer

 

 

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Requirements

Education

  • University Degree in Social work.

 

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience is required.

 

Professional Requirements

  • Strong observation, analytical and listening skills
  • The capacity to absorb legal/procedural information
  • The ability to negotiate/mediate/interpret on behalf of service users

 

Personal Requirements

  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Client Orientation approach
  • The social worker should have a compassionate, caring, and non-judgmental personality. Punctuality and respect for applicable rules and procedures;
  • Ethical and transparent decision-making;
  • Respect of confidentiality and data protection protocols;
  • Self-motivation, goal/result-orientation and team work;
  • Flexibility, tolerance and maturity.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in a crisis
  • Flexibility to adapt to new roles, tasks and situations

 

Languages

  • Fluency in (written and spoken) Arabic and Kurdish (Badini or Kurmanji);
