JOB DESCRIPTION

The Project Officer will be responsible for implementing the INL-funded “Timber Trace” project within the TRAFFIC Vietnam Office. The role requires a dynamic individual capable of working on multiple projects that contribute to TRAFFIC’s mission of ensuring that the wildlife trade is not a threat to the conservation of nature. This position will work closely with project partners, including law enforcement and government agencies and coordinate with the Senior Program Officer and other team members at TRAFFIC Vietnam & TRAFFIC Global Offices to ensure effective project implementation.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

The main duties of the position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Effectively implement all aspects of the Project, including training courses, workshops and meetings;
  • Monitor project budgets and timelines, flagging any potential issues to the Senior Program Officer.
  • Prepare regular project reports, including the periodic and final technical reports for the donor
  • Provide technical input and logistical support to project activities
  • and projects as requested;
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant law enforcement/government counterparts and other project partners;
  • Coordinate with team members and partners in project-targeted countries;
  • Support communications efforts which help to enhance visibility and promote project achievements
  • Attend team meetings providing updates on project progress and liaise/communicate with the team to streamline the wide range of project efforts;
  • Ensure regular reporting of activities and project progress to senior management and INL
  • Undertake translation of documents between Vietnamese to English as needed;
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Office Director and Senior Programme Officer.

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree or higher in natural resources management, conservation, law, biology, forestry, environmental management, or related fields;
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in timber trafficking, timber trade, wildlife crime, sustainable use, or conservation, demonstrated experience working with law enforcement, security, and government agencies at different levels;
  • Proficiency in anti-corruption, anti-trafficking, or anti-money laundering (AML) practices;
  • Experience working on government-funded projects, preferably U.S. government-funded projects (e.g., INL, USAID)
  • Experience in crime prevention, criminal justice systems, and relevant national laws;
  • Experience working in an international organisation is desirable;
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including implementation, quality control, M&E, and reporting;
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel regularly to project locations in Vietnam or internationally when required.
  • Understanding of regional timber trade dynamics and challenges
  • A passion for the natural world and/or an understanding of conservation, and environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Other necessary traits: professional, lateral and creative thinker; flexible; team player; accountable; and a personal commitment to zero-tolerance to wildlife crimes during and outside office hours.
