Overview of position

Under the overall
supervision of the Infrastructure Coordinator and direct supervision of the
Site Planner/ Architect; and, in collaboration with relevant units at Country
office and Sub-offices, the successful candidate will support the
implementation of the Infrastructure Projects Planning and Design in Country
Office Afghanistan.

Role objectives

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1.Assist the Site Planner/ Architect in developing
design briefs, schematic design, site plans, building designs, technical
drawings for small to medium-scale community infrastructure projects using
Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) software.

2.Support the Site Planner/ Architect in creating 3D
views using 3D modelling software.

3.Ensure compliance of designs with building codes,
zoning regulations, and other legal requirements.

4.Aid the Site Planner/ Architect in conducting
research on materials, construction techniques, and building systems to inform
design decisions.

5.Prepare maps for areas ranging from small to large
scale under the guidance of the Site Planner/ Architect, using Geographic
Information System software.

6.Contribute to quality control checks, ensuring that
design and construction documents are accurate and meet established standards.

7.Stay updated with industry trends, emerging
technologies, and sustainable design practices.

8.Incorporate sustainable and innovative solutions
into architectural designs.

9.Collaborate closely with architects, designers,
engineers, and other team members throughout all project phases.

10.Assist the Site Planner/
Architect in presenting design proposals and updates to clients and collecting
feedback.

11.Foster a collaborative and
creative work environment by actively participating in team discussions and
design critiques.

12.Provide necessary
information and documentation for the preparation of project reports,
presentations, proposals for IOM to contact potential donors, or any other
purpose.

13.Address and resolve any project-related issues or challenges as
they arise.

14.Maintain accurate and
organized project documentation.

15.Share insights and
contribute to problem-solving within the team.

16.Prioritize safety in
architectural designs and ensure that projects comply with health and safety
regulations.

Required Qualifications and
Experience

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture engineering or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience. or

  • High School diploma with five years of relevant experience.

Experience

·Experience
in organizing and monitoring of construction site activities, preferably
engaged with infrastructure activities. 

·Experience
in settlement planning, especially in IDP and returnee is preferable. 

·Experience
in organizing and monitoring of construction site activities, preferably
engaged with infrastructure activities.

·Demonstrated
understanding of different data collection methodologies.

·Ability
to work effectively and harmoniously in a team and in the inter-agency context
with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.

·Experience
in working directly with communities and in close consultation and coordination
with local authorities and,

·Prior
work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government
or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an
advantage.

SKILLS

·Proficiency
in AutoCAD and sketch-up is required.

·Proficiency
in MS office is required.

·Knowledge
of geographical information system (GIS) and GIS software is an advantage.

·Knowledge
of building codes, planning guideline, construction guidelines, standards, and
indicators is an advantage.

·Knowledge
of humanitarian and development programming in Afghanistan is an advantage.

Languages

·For
all Applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

·Working
knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.

·Fluency
in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
