Job Purpose: 

Under the supervision of the NTM and Standards & Training Manager (STM), responsible for the maintenance schedule, repair and disposal of all programme detectors; oversee all detector training in the programme; conduct field assessments of new detectors and contribute to HD R&D reports on new detectors introduced to the programme and related tasks in accordance with MAG Iraq Standard Operating Procedures, MAG HMA Global Technical Standards National Mine Action Standards (NMAS) and relevant detector manuals.

In collaboration with the Quality Manager (QM) and STM, develop training objectives in English, Arabic and Kurdish, aligning them with MAG’s mission and mandate to maximize operational effectiveness.

Represent MAG within the Training School acting as a key point of contact.

 

Job Description

Training

  • Develop Lesson Plans, Power Point presentations and Formative/Summative Assessments on Detectors for approval by the STM.
  • Deliver training on Detectors for Improvised Mine Field Clearance, Building Search/Clearance (Improvised Devices), Conventional Battle Area Clearance, Conventional Mine Field Clearance in accordance with approved Training Management Plans (TMPs) as directed by the NTM.
  • Conduct student assessments on Detectors as directed by the NTM.
  • Conduct annual Detector assessments on operational staff as directed by the STM
  • Conduct Training Needs Assessments (TNA) for Detectors as directed by the STM.
  • Contribute to the review, development and revision of SOPs and TMPs as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of new training and support trials of new equipment.
  • Responsible for management, maintenance and upgrading of all training equipment ensuring they meet the requirements of the training provided.
  • Interpret for International staff in the field and during meetings ensuring clear and effective communication.

 

  • Maintain a maintenance schedule for all Detectors across the programme and provide monthly reports to the STM of any unserviceability, stock or movement issues that may affect operations.
  • Support Training Officers by providing Detector assessments on student course reports.

 

Technical

 

  • Ensure full knowledge on all programme Detectors.
  • Research new Detectors and provide detailed reports to the STM on applications in the programme.
  • Ensure full knowledge of and ensure implementation of all MAG SOPs, drills and other work practices.
  • Ensure an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of all mines and munitions in the theatre of operations.
  • Contribute to the Training School’s Reference Library.
  • Ensure an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of all relevant technical equipment in the theatre of operations.
  • Ensure the maintenance, and safe and appropriate storage of all necessary project materials and equipment.
  • Travel to operational task sites to observe and keep up to date with Detector practices and types/condition of recovered Explosive Ordnance (EO).
  • Other duties as directed, in accordance with programme requirements.

 

Quality Management

 

  • Support Standards & Training Coordinator as required and plan/conduct Quality Assurance Evaluation on Detectors used on operational task sites.

 

Management and HR

 

  • Assist in managing, motivating and developing the training team within the project to perform to a high standard.
  • Under the supervision of the NTM and STM, ensure that student and training files and produced and shared with HR.
  • Ensure that HR policies and procedures are implemented in consultation with Base Manager and HR Manager.

 

Communications and Reporting

 

  • Ensure the NTM and STM are fully briefed on all training issues and any technical difficulties arising.
  • Submit accurate training reports as directed by the NTM, and produce other technical reports and documents as and when required.
  • Assist the NTM / STM in the development and production of training proposals, reports and budgets.
  • As required by the NTM / STM participate in investigation into incidents/accidents.

 

Health, Safety and Security

 

  • Assist in the monitoring of the security situation in work location and areas of operations ensuring that the NTM / STM are kept informed of security risks and developments.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Technical Qualifications

  • EOD/demining/IED qualifications or equivalent practical experience, including:
  • Detector Technician
  • EOD Level 2
  • Team Leader
  • Quality Management
  • Recognized Instructor qualification

 

Operational and Technical Experience

  • A mimum 3 years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience working in mine clearance, EOD, or IED operations in Iraq or similar conflict/post-conflict areas.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of detectors used in mine action in addition to maintenance, repair, and disposal of detectors.
  • Familiarity with mines, unexploded ordnance, and mine clearance techniques, including new developments.
  • Knowledge of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and search techniques.
  • Ability to develop, review, and comply with security and technical SOPs.
  • Proven experience in training, mentoring, and coaching in mine action or EOD.
  • Experience assisting in the management of training operations and conducting both formal and informal sessions.

 

 

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English, Kurdish and Arabic
  • Ability to translate documents and interpret during lessons between English, Kurdish, and Arabic.

 

 

Interpersonal Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong organizational skills to assist in planning and coordinating training activities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for report writing and documentation.
