Position description

Established in 2011, Fondation CHANEL aims to improve the economic and social conditions of women and adolescent girls around the world. As the barriers and discrimination women face are complex, the foundation believes in a multidimensional approach that can help demonstrate how gender is a cross-cutting issue through which it also addresses poverty, social exclusion and other critical challenges such as climate adaptation. The Fondation currently supports over 80 initiatives in 35 countries.

 

The main objectives of its current mission include:

  • Philanthropy – With funds provided by CHANEL, the Fondation provides financial and technical support to international organisations, civil society and social businesses working with girls and women around the world.
  • Corporate – The Fondation is a driving force of CHANEL’s social engagement and engages with CHANEL staff through its committed network of ambassadors. When appropriate, CHANEL staff also support Fondation’s partners through skills-based sponsorship.
  • Sector – Fondation CHANEL is a centre of excellence in philanthropy, social action, coalitions/networks, international cooperation, and more specifically – gender equality. It provides a platform for advice, documentation, and discussion of best practices among its partners, its peers and other external stakeholders. It seeks to continue to build on its added value and thought leadership on gender equality globally.

 

The Global partnerships portfolio of Fondation CHANEL is a $30 million annual grantmaking portfolio which supports a minimum of 30 grantee partners focused on advancing global gender equality programmes grounded in global issues and themes (with a focus on new forms of violence, re-imagining care, gender and climate), multilaterals, and global engagement.

 

The role of this position within the organisation

As part of Fondation CHANEL’s Global Partnerships and Advocacy Team, the Global Programme Officer will work collaboratively with the entire Fondation teams in London, New York, Paris, and Singapore and maintain a cross-functional relationship with the Finance & Operations departments (executive management, finance, grants and contracts, impact and learning, administration, corporate relations, and communications). This position works in close collaboration with Fondation CHANEL’s Global Programme Managers.

Missions and Responsibilities

1) Philanthropy:

  • Support Managers to implement the global partnerships and advocacy strategy.
  • Support prospection, monitoring, and evaluation of select global partners, building trust-based and strong relationships.
  • Liaise with Operations and Finance teams to monitor partner reporting, grant spend rate, compliance, due diligence, grant administration, and evaluations.
  • Plan and coordinate logistics for grantee visits, convenings, and travel and monitoring plans. Where appropriate, participate in and write travel insight reports for site visits.
  • Lead due diligence and call for proposal processes in line with the Fondation’s internal procedures.
  • Maintain key documents and filing system for the team.
  • Monitor partner reports, payment schedules, and schedule check ins.
  • Provide information from grantee reports to feed into strategies.

 

2) Corporate:

  • Participate in the development and execution of the Fondation CHANEL’s communication plan, with a focus on creating content for internal dissemination, acting as a focal point for communications within the team.
  • Identify, foster, and organise opportunities to communicate respectfully the work of Fondation CHANEL’s partners to the business, and as appropriate, develop corporate engagement touchpoints and opportunities.
  • Participate in cross-regional working groups. Collaborate with the US, Europe, Asia, Africa & MENA, and UK teams on various initiatives.

3) Sector:

  • Support the Managers to build substantive content and agenda setting for seminars and ensembles, including capturing and disseminating learnings.
  • Assist in preparations of speeches for members of the team and for external communication.

Qualifications/skills sought

  • Studies in social sciences, humanities, economics, international relations or other relevant subject.
  • Adequate work experience in gender equality, philanthropy, or international development. Further experience with issues with women and girls’ rights, safety, and autonomy highly desirable.
  • Experience managing partnerships and projects, in particular monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
  • Comfort with managing numbers and budgets.
  • Good analytical and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for respectful storytelling.
  • Fluency in English. Other languages desirable, in particular French and other UN languages.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 10% of working time).
