Job Description:Heathrow aims to lead in airport safety, ensuring everyone can travel safely. The Health and Safety Advisers play a key role in supporting business areas to manage risks, understand their safety culture, and continuously improve. Reporting to the Fire, Health and Safety Business Partner, the Advisor must provide expert Health, Safety, and Fire advice. They will build strong relationships with stakeholders, including operational safety leads, Trade Union H&S Representatives, and the wider FHS Team.By understanding business objectives and strategic plans, the Advisor offers guidance and assurance to Business Unit managers and Accountable Directors through effective Safety Governance.The Advisor also manages various FHS projects to achieve Safety strategic goals.Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring your business area understands Heathrow’s standards in respect to working conditions, equipment and welfare arrangements and is compliant with them and conducting and reviewing risk assessments and implementing the controls required.
  • Conducting FHS audits and assurance checks within the business, drive the delivery of actions identified, escalate where action is delayed and advice on alternative mitigation measures.
  • Supporting the delivery and adoption of Heathrow’s safety management system in business areas.
  • Supporting your business areas to define FHS accountabilities for all roles, including accountabilities for the oversight and assurance of third party FHS performance.
  • Establishing strong working relationships, particularly with Trade Unions, to ensure effective BU FHS governance and collaboration.
  • Providing advice and coaching to Safety Leads and Operational Managers on good incident investigation process and reporting.
  • Supporting your business area to identify their training needs, based on an assessment of risk and accountabilities.
  • Supporting your business area to understand its safety culture and, using the continuous improvement toolkit, develop action plans to strengthen maturity.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced safety professional with expertise in managing risk in large-scale operational safety environment.
  • Experience in working with senior leadership teams -influencing and driving change.
  • Holds or is working towards a National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrates a proven track record of effective stakeholder management in a unionized environment.

Ideally, you’ll have

  • Nebosh Certificate
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret and present data meaningfully, and has a good understanding of project management processes, emphasising continuous improvement.
