  1. PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

 

Mercy Corps works in places of transition, where conflict, disaster, political upheaval, or economic collapse present opportunities to build more secure, productive, and just communities. Providing emergency relief in times of crisis, we move quickly to help communities recover and build resilience to future shocks and promote sustainable change by supporting community-led and market-driven initiatives. Recognizing both the great potential and the complex challenges faced by the Middle East, since 1989 Mercy Corps has been implementing a range of humanitarian assistance and development programs tailored to the specific needs of the region and of those communities where we work.  Mercy Corps has worked across Iraq’s 18 governorates since 2003, implementing relief and development programming, more than a third of which has focused on the specific needs of refugees and displaced persons. Mercy Corps Iraq current goal is to work with new and existing civil society, public and private sector partners to meet immediate and long-term needs by strengthening communities’ ability to rebuild amidst increasing crisis. Mercy Corps Iraq focuses on (1) a relief-to-resilience pathway to meet the needs of conflict-affected communities leveraging agency expertise in conflict management and civil society development (2) a humanitarian response that empowers conflictaffected populations to meet their own needs (3) partnering with conflict-affected adolescents to address their diverse needs, promoting leadership and linkages with civil society.

3.Objective:

this Program design to build the capacity of national intern under Mercy Corps Finance Department, This will build the next generation of Finance sector by investing in their capacity and encouraging cross-learning between recent graduates and experienced staff for Four months starting from May 15, 2022 to Sep 14,2022, As well as to ensure all involved parties have a common understanding of the objective of the internships, their duties, and responsibilities and the obligations of other involved persons, departments in implementing the internship program. Interns will be involved in Mercy Corps Finance department in Erbil. This will provide exposure to interns and will provide extra support to departments where interns are involved, our goal is that interns can enhance their theoretical knowledge into practical secondment and may secure longer-term positions at NGOs.

At the same time, the internship program may develop a pipeline of potential employees for Mercy Corps, as we strive to identify strong local candidates for all our positions, The interns are expected to have and able to be implementing a set of fresh technical skills gained through the exercises, assignments, and research/articles/work plans that the Finance team has provided during the internship, explore career alternatives post-graduation, integrate theory and practice, assess interests and abilities in their field of study, learn to appreciate work and its function in the economy, develop work habits and attitudes necessary for job success, develop communication, interpersonal, and other critical skills in the job interview process. build a record of work experience, identify, write down, and carry out performance objective.

 

4.Essential Responsibilities / Roles

 

  • Assist in Archive Mercy Corps (All Iraq finance) documents
  • Make sure that all supporting documentation is prepared and filed according to MC procedures.
  • Assist in Archive FY vouchers, label them as per the finance manual guide including index preparation.
  • Scan all monthly vouchers & maintain them in drive folders.
  • Coordinate with field offices to get original documents.
  • Arrange with other MC offices for shipping MC document.
  • Assist on preparing donor/audit by providing soft/hardcopies.
  • Assist on preparing documents for GIZ donor reporting.
  • Assist in responding to audit inquiries, including preparing, scanning & submitting audit reports.
  • Conduct him/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

  1. Mercy Corps Role:

The Program will develop the capacity of the team, deepen understanding of their roles and assist with career development, assist team members with information, tools and resources to improve performance & reach objectives. Promote accountability, communicate expectations, and provide constructive feedback informally and formally via regular one on ones and performance reviews. Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence. Mercy Corps will do the following:  

 

  • Mercy Corps will be responsible for monitoring and following up on the internship process and providing the necessary assistance when needed.
  • Coordinate with the relevant actors to facilitate the internship.
  • Mercy Corps will be responsible for conducting training, development plans, and periodic catch ups. Training, coordination, providing inductions and interns for their workplaces ● conduct regular follow-ups, feedback, and create the development plan.
  • Mercy Corps will involve interns in all Finance activities.

 

5.Selection Criteria:

 

Shortlisting of applicants will be done based on an agreed scoring system and will be led by the Human Resource (HR) department to ensure transparency in the selection process:

 

  • Have recently graduated with bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Administration or other relevant department.
  • Interns should be 1 to 2 years fresh graduates.
  • age category range is between 20- 30 years.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is essential(required).
  • Computer literacy and skills in MS office programs, particularly Microsoft Excel and word.
