The Iraqi Institution for Development (IID) is seeking an experienced Trainer to deliver a 3-day professional -MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) and mhGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Programme) training for 15 IID staff, IID partners, and Junior Professionals (JP) doctors. This training aims to enhance the understanding and practical skills of healthcare providers in assessing, managing, and delivering mental health and psychosocial supportinterventions using WHO guidelines and mhGAP modules.

 

Key Objectives

  • Increase participants’ knowledge and skills in mental health and psychosocial support aligned with WHO-MHPSS principles.
  • Train participants on mhGAP guidelines to identify and manage priority mental, neurological, and substance use disorders effectively.
  • Equip participants with practical skills in applying mhGAP Intervention Guide Version 2.0 (mhGAP-IG) for mental health management in primary healthcare settings.
  • Strengthen case management and referral pathways for complex cases and psychosocial support services.

Training Schedule Overview

Day 1: Introduction to WHO-MHPSS and mhGAP Basics

  • Morning Session:
    • Introduction and Objectives: Overview of training goals, MHPSS principles, and alignment with mental health needs in primary healthcare.
    • mhGAP Overview: Understanding the purpose and structure of the mhGAP Intervention Guide (Version 2.0).
  • Afternoon Session:
    • Principles of MHPSS: Introduction to key principles of MHPSS and strategies for integrating mental health services within non-specialized health settings.

Day 2: Identification, Assessment, and Interventions

  • Morning Session:
    • Assessment Techniques: Identifying and assessing priority mental health conditions using mhGAP tools and protocols.
    • Intervention Planning: Practical guidance on implementing interventions based on mhGAP recommendations.
  • Afternoon Session:
    • Case Management and Referrals: Establishing effective referral pathways and comprehensive case management strategies.

Day 3: Practical Applications and Wrap-Up

  • Morning Session:
    • Hands-on Role Play and Scenario-Based Learning: Applying MHPSS and mhGAP concepts through role-plays and scenario-based exercises to reinforce learning.
  • Final Wrap-Up & Q&A: Summary of key learnings, discussion on remaining questions, and tools for continued development.

Trainer Responsibilities

The selected trainer will be responsible for the following:

  1. Training Delivery:
  • Facilitate the 3-day training program, ensuring participant engagement and practical learning outcomes.
  • Training Materials Development:
    • Develop comprehensive session plans, presentations, and training materials in alignment with WHO-MHPSS and mhGAP guidelines.
  • Pre- and Post-Training Assessments:
    • Prepare pre- and post-tests to evaluate participant knowledge and progress.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Provide a final report summarizing key outcomes, feedback, and recommendations for future capacity-building efforts.
    • Maintain attendance records for all participants.
  • Optional Documentation:
    • Capture optional photos/videos of the training sessions, if applicable, free of cost.

    Deliverables

    • Detailed training materials and session plans for approval before the training.
    • A final report summarizing participant feedback, key outcomes, and recommendations for further capacity-building activities.
    • Pre- and post-tests to evaluate participant knowledge and learning progress.
    • Attendance sheets to record participant engagement throughout the training.
    • Copy of the training curriculum, to be shared with IID.
    • Photos/videos of the training sessions (optional, free of cost).
    • Application Requirements

      Interested trainers should submit:

      1. Trainer CV: Highlighting relevant experience in MHPSS capacity-building, training, and facilitation.
      2. Proposal: Explanation of the approach to training delivery, emphasizing the integration of WHO-MHPSS and mhGAP guidelines.
      3. Curriculum Outline: A practical curriculum breakdown including session objectives, key topics, and methodologies.
      4. Training Cost Support: Separate detailed budget proposal for delivering the training in Mosul or Erbil, indicating the location for which the trainer is applying.

    Selection Criteria

    • Quality of Technical Proposal (70%): Evaluated based on the comprehensiveness of the curriculum, alignment with WHO-MHPSS and mhGAP guidelines, and the trainer’s experience.
    • Experience and References (30%): Trainer’s proven track record in delivering similar pieces of training and positive feedback from past clients.
