Research Officer with Non-Communicable Diseases under the Nutrition Research Division (Adv#242/2024)

Non-Communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of death worldwide. Nearly 43% of the population in Bangladesh is in the age group of 6 months to 19 years are exposed to at least one NCD risk factor. Early diagnosis of NCDs in children could help health managers to control the increasing burden of these diseases in adults. In this study, a comprehensive and scalable pediatric NCD service delivery model will be developed at primary health care systems in two districts of the Dhaka and Khulna divisions in Bangladesh, in collaboration with NCDC, UNICEF and pediatric NCD experts and other stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Research Officer will report to Medical Officer and will plan, organize and implement qualitative research, IDI, FGD; coordination with community health care provider, health workers at the community clinic level, work at the Upazila health complex, data collection, analyze and manage data, facility survey, community mobilization with the objective of conducting high-quality research.

He/ she will be responsible to:

  • Implementing qualitative research to collect and analyze data from stakeholders at various levels, including government and non-government organizations, health facilities, policymakers, and disease domain experts;
  • Conduct scoping review, analyze data, and draw scientific inferences;
  • Monitor facility surveys in district and sub—district hospitals for checking medicine inventory, hospital patient records, equipment and trained resources;
  • Assessment of user acceptability of Health Management and Information System for pediatric care at the facility level;
  • Supervise and guide team member in implementing project/ research activities assigned by the supervisor;
  • Transcription of interviews, analysis in Nvivo and writing results;
  • Validate documents and reports for data accuracy and adherence to protocol guidelines;
  • Prepare draft report for submission to supervisor; Revise final report based on feedback received from supervisor;
  • Support to the Principal Investigator for developing manuscript/guidelines/SOPs and any others reports relevant to the projects;
  • Liaise with government and non-government stakeholders in implementing project activities and developing collaboration.

Required qualification and experience:

  • Masters in Social science preferably Anthropology/ Sociology/ other relevant fields; Masters in Public Health will be preferable;
  • 3 years of working experience in health research; One year of working experience in relevant field.

Location: Dhaka and Khulna divisions

Contract Type and duration:

  • CSA basis for 3 (six) months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Tk. 59,900/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
