Under article 4.2, paragraph (e) of the Staff Regulations, the filling of vacancies in technical cooperation projects does not fall under Annex I of the Staff Regulations and is made by direct selection by the Director-General.

Technical cooperation appointments are not expected to lead to a career in the ILO and they do not carry any expectation of renewal or conversion to any other type of appointment in the Organization. A one-year fixed-term contract will be given. Extensions of technical cooperation contracts are subject to various elements including the following: availability of funds, continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.
*Conditions of employment for external candidates: In conformity with existing ILO practice, the appointment of an external candidate will normally be made at the first step of this grade. The entry level salary for this position is $31,125.00 (Belizean dollars) annually.
Introduction
The project will promote local economic development (LED) in a participatory planning approach, involving persons in rural and indigenous communities, and particularly, women and youth, while integrating the development of skills and entrepreneurship competencies and mainstreaming gender and environmentally sustainable practices to address the needs and challenges of communities. This position is based in Punta Gorda, Belize. Project implementation will be in the Toledo District, including some activities in Stan Creek.
The Senior Driver provides administrative support to the project implementation, in line with established project plans and objectives.
As a member of the project team, the Senior Driver is responsible for reliable and safe driving services to the project implementation team, other officials and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity and sense of responsibility. The incumbent is accountable for arranging airport VIP and protocol services and customs clearances when receiving high-level delegations.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the National Project Manager. Supervision received is focused on facilitating service delivery, ensuring that agreed results are achieved and that work is coordinated and integrated with related services within processing timelines. Work assignments are generally carried out with the incumbent operating with direct supervision. Work is reviewed for feasibility of recommendations and correctness of end results.
Description of Duties
1. Ensure the provision of safe and reliable driving services when driving the office vehicles for official purposes.
2. Greet officials and visitors at the airport and facilitate where necessary with immigration and customs formalities.
3. Collect and distribute mail, diplomatic pouch bags, documents and other items.
4. Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle and accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and documentation.
5. Responsible for daily maintenance of assigned vehicles including checking of tyres, brakes, water levels, oil and battery. Always keep the vehicle clean and in good running condition. Carry out timely minor repairs and make arrangements for major repairs.
6. Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit and other MOSS-compliant equipment and necessary spare parts in assigned vehicles.
7. Inform the supervisor in a timely manner of (re)registrations and insurance procedures for all office vehicles.
8. Perform various support functions by assisting office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores. Assist in the mailing, collection and distribution of documents.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications
Education
Completion of secondary school education. Valid and clean driver’s licence.
Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant work experience with a safe driving record. Driving experience with a UN agency, diplomatic or international organization would be considered an advantage.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and good working knowledge of Spanish. Knowledge of Q’eqchi and/or Mopan will be considered an asset.
Competencies

- Excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
- Good knowledge of local roads and conditions.
- Skills in minor vehicle repair.
- Good knowledge of chauffeur protocol and courtesies.
- Good knowledge of security issues.
- Good knowledge of rules and procedures on vehicle management including maintenance of official vehicles and knowledge of mechanics and maintenance and repair of vehicles.
- Knowledge of administrative rules and regulations.
- Basic computer skills to record information in IT systems.
- Ability to present a professional image at all times.
- Ability to deal calmly with unexpected circumstances or delays.
- Discretion and respect for confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
