Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the CBRN Risk Mitigation and Security Governance Unit of UNICRI, in Turin, Italy. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Head of Unit and overall guidance of the Associate Public Information Officer.
Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: · Assist with the layout and preparation of information materials and provide substantive assistance to the CBRN Unit in producing and delivering information communications’ products and services, i.e., with the production of publications, videos, newsletters and awareness raising campaigns; · Contribute to the graphic content for CBRN projects, e.g., brochures, presentational materials, and support the visual updating and expansion of the CBRN section on the UNICRI’ website. · In consultation with relevant staff, assist in planning the design, production and scheduling of graphic material; assist in providing technical support for the design, layout, and make-up of individual pages of various communications products, using relevant publishing tools. · Take photographs, videos and create graphics; ensure that all are appropriate and conform with UN standards for printed materials; determine specifications for size, material/paper, typesetting, layout, illustrations, colours, etc to be used and liaise with service providers. · Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. · Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. · Perform other work-related tasks.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
- A minimum of three years of work experience in graphic design (including web graphics) is required. The minimum years of relevant work experience is reduced to one for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Proven experience in advanced command over a full range of graphic design software, including Adobe Suite/CC such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects, HTML editors (Dreamweaver) etc is required. Professional experience with standard operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS, or similar is desirable.
- Experience with user interface design and usability, as well as main design principles (color, layout, and typography) is desirable. Experience with Content Management System concepts and applications, basic experience with CSS and HTML coding and Drupal is desirable. Experience in photo- and video- production is desirable. Previous relevant work experience within the United Nations System or similar large international organizations is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
