Program Overview

The Fundraising Officer will play a critical role in OCCRP’s fundraising efforts. Their primary focus will be on grant writing and prospect research and cultivation. This is a great opportunity for someone with at least 3-5 years of experience in fundraising from government agencies and private foundations, particularly in the United States. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing, communication, and collaboration skills, coupled with strong expertise in data management. Knowledge of investigative journalism, media, and foreign policy fields are desirable.

Job Description

The Fundraising Officer will work closely with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and other members of the fundraising team to identify and answer requests for proposals from government agencies and private foundations, particularly in the United States. They will also assist with donor engagement, data management, and content bank development.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the full range of activities required to research, write, and submit compelling letters of intent, concept notes, and grant proposals to government agencies and private foundations.
  • Conduct research to identify new grant opportunities aligned with OCCRP’s goals and mission.
  • Produce, organize, and update written resources to be used in outreach and applications, including standard language and templates, and work with the communication team to produce, organize, and update promo materials, such as brochures.
  • Support the Chief Philanthropy Officer and other members of the fundraising team in initiating and sustaining personal contacts with government agencies and private foundations, scheduling meetings, sharing periodic reviews, and promptly answering any inquiries and requests.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all prospecting and grant application activities within the organization’s CRM database.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure appropriate recognition and acknowledgment of institutional donors and grantors.
  • Perform other duties and support special projects as assigned or requested.

You are adaptable and open to new challenges, ready to step in and support wherever needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Journalism, or Foreign Policy field.
  • Three to five years of experience in grant writing, with a strong track record of securing grants from government agencies and private foundations, particularly in the United States.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • Strong research skills and familiarity with donor prospecting tools and databases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning and time-management abilities, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector, donor cultivation practices, and philanthropic trends.
  • Proficiency in using Google Suite, CRM systems, and grant management software.
