POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Alaska Program Assistant

Reports To: Program Manager

Status: Full-time Exempt

Location: Anchorage, AK (Hybrid-Remote)

Salary Range: $40,000 – $45,000 Annually 

Position Summary

The Student Conservation Association is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. The Alaska Program Assistant helps with the logistical tasks of executing corps programing in Alaska, with a focus on managing the tool and equipment cache. This position will work with a team of Alaska Corps Program staff, ensuring that teams are properly equipped with the gear, food and tools needed to achieve their project goals in a safe and responsible manner.

This is a full-time, salaried position with a salary range of $40,000 – $45,000 annually, with a planned start date in early March 2025.  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the function, inventory, safety, and organization of the Alaska cache.
  • Repairing and/or replacing broken and damaged gear, equipment, and tools.
  • Manage truck and trailer fleet repair needs.
  • Prepare vehicles for programs to use, cleaning and taking in for routine maintenance.
  • Ensure corps teams are equipped with functional tools and PPE and members/leaders have necessary gear and equipment for the field season. ·
  • Respond, report, and track incidents in accordance with SCA policies and procedures by reporting immediately to supervisor.
  • Work with Alaska Program Coordinators to ensure teams are resupplied in a timely manner and field budgets are updated as needed.
  • Assist with member and leader training.
  • Complete general administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge of SCA Alaska programs.
  • Represent a positive and professional image of SCA.
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the SCA Employee Handbook and the Field Guide.
  • Foster an environment that promotes safety and belonging between SCA leaders, members and staff.
  • Supports elements of program trainings and work skills
  • 40 hours a week, M-F, and occasional weekends (with additional hours outside of normal business hours as needed)

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Valid Driver’s license for at least three years and driving record within SCA guidelines.
  • Must pass SCA criminal background check.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through and as part of a remote, highly mobile, and fast-paced team.
  • Strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft office suite of programs: Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Education and Experience

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Wilderness First Responder Certification preferred or ability to obtain certification on or
  • Experience with light carpentry projects and use of power and hand tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with repair and maintenance of hand and power tools is a plus.
  • Experience with field-based programming and cooking meals in a field camp.
  • Experience with front and backcountry camping in bear
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training certificate preferred.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel to support field trainings, conduct site visits, and provide logistical support to Alaska Program corps teams. Travel in Alaska may be up to 25% of the time.

Physical Demands

  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds, be on your feet all day and hike comfortably on uneven terrain.
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights of up to 20
