Duties and Responsibilities
The consultancy will be focused on delivering the following tasks: • Develop a communications strategy for the UNEP Plastics Initiative with the aim of boosting visibility and highlighting the work, achievements, and impact from a wide range of projects • Support the establishment and promotion of the branding of UNEP Plastics Initiative • Lead the development of related communications collaterals and contents – online and offline, including but not limited to press releases, articles, impact stories, social media outreach pieces including texts, visuals, and videos • Lead the development of communication assets for the China Trust Fund project to increase visibility of its activities • Translate technical resources into visual communication assets showing impact data, analysis, metrics, and infographics • Develop and disseminate regular newsletters by writing high-level updates, short news pieces, stories, announcements, based on inputs from projects • Ensure that UNEP webpage and other platforms are up to date with the latest and high-quality information • Engage with communication focal points of individual projects to gather information, identify opportunities, co-create communication products to increase visibility of the work • Coordinate with focal points from the Communications Division at UNEP to ensure alignment with the corporate communication strategy and existing campaigns • Support the preparation of briefings and presentations for outreach and communication activities • Support donor reporting of individual projects under the UNEP Plastics Initiative to ensure common and consistent messaging • Support the maintenance of a knowledge management platform for the regular update, curation, and tagging of knowledge products that are generated under the UNEP Plastics Initiative • Support monitoring of media to stay up to date with activities of donors, international and national organisations that are active in addressing plastic pollution, circular economy, and sustainable production and consumption
Qualifications/special skills
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, social science, environmental studies, development studies, or a related field is required. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of communication is required. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies for projects, programmes, or initiatives is required Experience in creating impactful communication assets is required. Experience of working on specific topics related to plastics, circular economy, and sustainable consumption and production would be an advantage. Strong skills in using Microsoft Office, newsletter platform, website platform, and other digital communication tools are required Experience of working in an international and intergovernmental organization is an asset.
Languages
Excellent written and verbal English proficiency is required, in addition to the ability to independently generate clear and concise content for diverse audiences.
