Swan Valley Connections (SVC) is seeking a field technician to conduct rare carnivore wildlife surveys in the winter of 2025. These surveys will occur in remote portions of the Swan, Clearwater, and Blackfoot River Valleys.
This position entails conducting snow track surveys and installing bait stations to document the presence and distribution of focal species– lynx and wolverine– in the project area. This position requires working in a team of two to conduct surveys. Crews will be required to drive snowmobiles to access the survey areas and snowshoe several miles each day in deep snow conditions and rugged terrain. Technicians must be in good physical tness. Technicians must also be able to collect data using a GPS device. Work will take place in remote settings and in a variety of inclement winter weather. The position will entail driving an SVC work vehicle while towing a trailer with snowmobiles. SVC will provide vehicles, snowmobiles, snowshoes, helmets, and other eld gear related to surveys. Technicians are expected to provide their own housing, meals, and winter clothing. The technician position will be expected to be based in Condon, Montana.
Preferred Qualications/Skills:
- First Aid/CPR or higher certication
- Snowmobile experience/certication
- Trailer/Towing experience/certication
- Avalanche awareness training/certication
- GPS knowledge and skills
- Orientation and navigation, map reading skills
- Wildlife track identication and trailing skills
- Clean driving record
- Backcountry safety and risk management skills
- Working independently and as part of a collaborative team of partners
