Job Overview:

The Development Manager is responsible for fundraising, developing and maintaining strategic relationships with external partners, public relations, contract/grant management, and oversight of volunteer and in-kind donation programs. The Development Manager will support IRC efforts in Montana to develop and implement local community engagement strategies and build, maintain, and harness strategic partnerships. This role works closely with IRC teams and partner agency leaders to increase community awareness of IRC’s activities and relevant issues.

Major Responsibilities:

Resource Development

  • Meet or exceed yearly fundraising goals with the expectation that each year’s goals will increase over the previous year
  • Oversee the preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets and reports to local foundations and other potential donors to solicit cash funds for programs in collaboration with program staff
  • Identify, cultivate and sustain individual donors through mailings, face-to-face donor cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other creative mechanisms
  • Ensure the office works effectively to meet cash and in-kind matching requirements and maintains appropriate documentation for all resource development including cash donations, in-kind donations and volunteer hours
  • Organize annual fundraisers, donor appeals, and other special events

Donor Relations and Communications

  • Raise awareness about, and represent, the office through participation in outreach and fundraising events with community, civic and faith partners, and individual and corporate financial and in-kind donors
  • Support the planning and implementation of media and communications strategies, including working with local community radio contacts and/or recording public service announcements (PSAs) to conduct targeted community outreach
  • Support community events planning, preparation and implementation, including managing and tracking attendees, donations, and all other associated logistics
  • Assist in the creation of communications materials including using social media and newsletters to engage current and prospective donors, deepen donor commitments and enhance giving

Grants Management

  • Successfully increase the total grant funding in dollar amounts annually
  • Oversee the submission of all proposals with the expectation of annual increases in total number of grants and total funding amounts submitted
  • Maintain a grants management tracking and donor tracking system regularly updated with accurate data
  • Develop and ensure the effective maintenance of contract and grant files for each funded program with consistent documentation standards
  • Work closely with program staff to prepare interim and final reports to grantors
  • Liaise with the headquarters grants and business development staff on all new contracts, grants and sub-grants

Volunteer Services

  • Provide oversight of volunteer coordination services, including ensuring that volunteer and internship opportunities are well defined, recruited, and filled in accordance with team needs and IRC national volunteer guidelines.
  • Ensure appropriate recordkeeping and reporting on volunteer service hours
  • Support a positive and productive intern and volunteer experience

Strategic Partnership Development

  • Lead creation and implementation of community and partner development and engagement plans, including identifying key stakeholders to engage and developing outreach strategies
  • Lead creation of partnership maintenance and reporting strategies with other IRC in Missoula teams to support local strategic, community relations, external influencing and programmatic needs, ensuring integration of partnership and community relations strategies across programs and strategies
  • Participate in relevant IRC community of practice forums to implement and contribute to promising practices for client and community engagement practices
  • Provide trainings to IRC staff on community engagement
  • Work with other program leads to understand funding priorities and volunteer needs
  • Collaborate with the office leaders on strategies to engage with donors and decision makers to influence how programs can be shaped by community influence
  • Relay community priorities and interests to RAI leadership and partners, and/or foster opportunities for direct engagement between community stakeholders, members, and leaders with IRC teams
  • Ensure alignment of client and community engagement programming, and office strategies with the RAI GEDI framework.

Community Engagement

  • Create tools, fact sheets, presentations, and templates to support community outreach and response
  • Serve as a primary point of contact at IRC with local community leaders and groups, and/or initial point of contact facilitating connections to IRC program teams
  • Proactively engage in outreach to and follow up with strategic relationships, networks, coalitions, and partners
  • Build genuine and productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

Communications and Relationship Management

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage impacted community members (including participants in the IRC Refugee Voices initiative) and in IRC internal and external engagement efforts
  • Serve as relationship manager for key external partnerships and implement engagement activities with support from resource development, program staff, and leadership as appropriate.
  • Assist in raising awareness about IRC and issues related to our work. Represent IRC at meetings, speaking engagements, fora, coalition events, etc. as needed

Advocacy

  • Coordinate with office leadership, headquarters technical support to engage in state-level advocacy activities such as meeting with representatives during state legislative sessions

Leadership

  • Represent IRC with partner organizations, funders, and other community stakeholders
  • Act as a member of IRC in Montana Leadership Team
  • Work with IRC Leadership Team, program leads and other staff, and ensure a good working relationship with all internal departments/programs in the design and coordination of new partnerships and community engagement
  • Participate in staff meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC in Missoula team
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Deputy Director on status of grants and fundraising activities and partnership development and provide timely reports on management issues and concerns
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent professional and/or lived experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible professional experience, a significant portion of which should include program management, fundraising, special events, proposal writing and other resource development activities
  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred
  • Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant is preferred
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Self-direction and initiative, when needed, to take the lead and to follow through to completion
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong leader with ability to work independently
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
