Mali Country Office is a non-family duty station, with increasingly dependent on information, technology and communication resources from program planning, implementation and financial control to telecommunication.

  • Communication capacity and tools in an emergency setting are the lifeline of any major emergency response effort but the work of emergency responders can be difficult as the telecommunication infrastructure is often disrupted or unavailable. In these kinds of situations and time sensitive scenarios, ICT personnel are the first line of response and carry the responsibility of providing immediate and secure telecommunications means and ICT services to enable UNICEF to deliver its support to the affected communities against the challenges posed by emergencies.
  • This specific position, placed under the direct supervision of the ICT specialist for Mali, requires the ability to administer user access to the network, data security of the network, and troubleshooting ad-hoc hardware and/or software problems experienced in the network or stand-alone systems. Must be responsible for all network related issues in terms of maintenance, upgrades and training, whether it is LAN like Cisco Meraki, WAN like ISP or VSATs, Emergency Telecoms like Radios, Satellite phones, BGANs etc., conferencing like Polycom.
  • As the post is located in Gao, the incumbent will also be responsible for the maintenance/improvement related issues and equipment for Gao and Menaka Outpost.

EDUCATION

  • Completion of Secondary education is required, supplemented with formal training at university level in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering. ITIL Foundation Certificate or equivalent customer support certification is an asset.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least seven (7) years of practical work experience in information technology, requiring systematic methods of troubleshooting and problem solving is required.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in French is required, with working knowledge of English. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language of the duty station is an asset.
