Program Coordinator
Are you inspired by the prospect of transforming outdoor education into a rewarding career? Outdoor Classroom is in search of a dedicated Program Coordinator for our residential outdoor education program. This key role will oversee day-to-day operations, including program planning, staff supervision, and liaison with partnered schools.
Who we are
We’re the largest outdoor and environmental education program in the northeastern US. We specialize in experiential learning, focusing on science, nature, and social-emotional skills. We provide engaging and transformative programming for elementary and middle school students who join us for overnight field trips. Each spring and fall, we welcome hundreds of schools to our seven spectacular sites.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations and programming at the assigned site.
- Lead, mentor, and support a dedicated team of 6-12 instructors.
- Cultivate and maintain a positive relationship with the host site.
- Attend Program Coordinator trainings.
- Help organize and attend instructor training week at the start of each season.
- Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative work culture.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with participating schools.
- Ensure consistent and effective communication with each school.
- Manage all administrative duties such as creating schedules, writing group reports, and managing the site budget.
- Required to live on-site during the program season.
Salary & benefits
The starting salary for this seasonal role is $900 per week. Housing is provided during the program season. (Service animals only. Sorry, no ESAs.) We also offer mileage reimbursement for work-related travel. Meals are provided when schools are on-site. Food on weekends is supplemented through a stipend for the whole staff team.
Dates
This is a seasonal position. The position starts with 2 days of administrative work per week in February and the beginning of March. Starting on March 17, the Program Coordinator will work 5 days per week and live on-site in provided shared housing. The spring season ends on June 7. Please note these dates may shift slightly. There is the opportunity to return for the fall season.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of one year of management experience, five years of youth work experience, and three years in an outdoor setting (summer camp or outdoor education preferred). We highly value candidates who exhibit a great attitude and enjoy teamwork. The ability to navigate uneven terrain quickly to respond to emergencies is also required. While a Bachelor’s degree is preferred, it is not required.
