This position is inclusive of Medical Education. The Medical Science & Economics Director will lead a team to create and execute a comprehensive Medical Science strategy that enables commercial success by firmly establishing the clinical and economic value of the ACM portfolio.This is a dynamic opportunity where the ideal candidate will possess advanced scientific and medical knowledge, executive presence, robust economic and education proficiency, and personnel management experience. Moreover, this individual will be expected to lead cross-functional collaborations, clearly communicate Medical Science & Economics strategy and deliverable expectations and remove barriers to ensure the Medical Science & Economics Team can meaningfully contribute to ACM Western Europe business success. Ability to travel up to 25%.A Day In the Life – the Medical Science Director will:

  • Create and execute on a comprehensive Medical Science & Economic strategy for Western Europe that enables commercial growth by establishing the clinical and economic value of each ACM product franchise
  • Act as a key strategic advisor, collaborating with executive leadership to shape and implement initiatives that align with ACM’s overarching goals
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with KOLs, leveraging their insights to influence clinical strategies, product development, and market positioning
  • Establish and lead advisory boards, bringing together thought leaders to provide strategic input on product development, clinical strategies, and market access
  • Develop and implement professional education programs, ensuring healthcare professionals are informed about the latest advancements and best practices related to ACM solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to construct a robust clinical and economical value proposition for Medtronic’s products
  • Translate complex medical and economic evidence into compelling narratives that resonate with healthcare providers and stakeholders
  • Bridge the gap between medical and economic evidence, crafting value-driven messages for sales and marketing teams
  • Train and support sales teams to effectively articulate the clinical and economic benefits of products, ensuring value-driven selling strategies
  • Serve as the functional manager of the Acute Care & Monitoring Operating Unit Western Europe Medical Science & Economics Team
  • Provide training, oversight, coaching, and accountability to ensure exceptional representation of the Medical Science & Economics team internally and externally
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Medical Science & Economics Team to generate and disseminate evidence-based scientific messages to drive the Acute Care & Monitoring Operating Unit strategy
  • Empower the Medical Science & Economics Team by breaking down barriers and ensuring sufficient resourcing, ensuring alignment with the high-level business strategy plans, and supporting dissemination of consistent messages through all distribution channels (e.g., podium presentations, publications, Marketing materials, Sales Training, Public Relations/Investor Relations, and Medical Education)
  • Recruit, retain, and develop talent by fostering an inclusive, engaged team environment
  • Manage the Medical Science & Economics Team’s cost center, budget, and resource forecasting
  • Develop, track, and report on reach and impact metrics related to medical science & economic output dissemination, strategy development, and execution to Clinical Research and Medical Science senior staff, cross-functional stakeholders, and executive business leadership in Western Europe and Globally
  • Maintain evidence subject matter expertise around the Acute Care & Monitoring portfolio of products, and develop a team with robust knowledge and awareness of the competitive and relevant landscapes to provide medical science and economic input to business stakeholders across the product lifecycle
  • Support the Medical Science & Economics Team to develop plans for scientific congresses/conferences and represent Medical Science in congress/conference planning meetings to ensure optimization of evidence distribution strategy and delivery of consistent scientific messages
  • Provide ongoing surveillance of the literature (device-specific, and competitive), and congress coverage/recaps (summaries of critical presentations, live cases)
  • Disseminate key findings of any major medical science-related releases to internal and external stakeholders as appropriate through email blasts and literature review calls
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to support the review of downstream materials through established processes (e.g., Veeva, etc.)
  • Co-create & lead a cross-functional governance forum, in partnership with Clinical Research, to identify and prioritize global post-market evidence needs and oversee development of an integrated evidence generation and publications roadmap across the Acute Care & Monitoring Operating Unit – driving alignment on priorities and key decisions
  • For Office Roles: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be independently mobile

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience managing a team that creates medical science deliverables (e.g., scientific content for general audiences, medical education content development and delivery, health economic analyses) to internal/external Medical Science stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced medical degree (e.g., MD)
  • Advanced education and training in health economics
  • Demonstrated ability to enable commercial success
  • Proven ability to develop and lead a team – experience leading teams focused on scientific communications, medical education, and/or health economics at medical device or life sciences companies
  • Record of success in developing and tracking metrics for medical science deliverables
  • Ability to provide mentorship to team on deliverables, ensuring quality and alignment with scientific/medical evidence, medical education and commercial teams
  • Knowledge of medical and economic literature, and medical education content development and delivery
  • Budget and cost center management experience
  • Demonstrated success in effective interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build and foster relationships with KOLs and key business stakeholders
  • Highly motivated and capable of comprehending large amounts of medical science content, which is then communicated in a clear, concise fashion to internal and external business stakeholders
  • Advanced presentation and computer skills with expertise in literature identification and evaluation and medical education content development and delivery
