Mission and objectives
Youth Co:Lab positions young people front and center in order to solve the region’s most pressing challenges. Co-created in 2017 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation, Youth Co:Lab aims to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth so that they can accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
Context
The UNDP Youth Empowerment Portfolio in Asia and the Pacific (hereafter referred to as “UNDP Youth Team”) with the Skill Our Future initiative in collaboration with Jobs That Make Sense Asia is co-organising the “Watt’s Next? Unlocking the Job Market” virtual event to be held on 15 January 2025. The UNDP Youth Team is seeking the support of online volunteers to assist the host team in facilitating the event and ensuring smooth interactions. The Skill Our Future initiative, jointly led by UNDP and other partners, aims to create digital pathways and reduce digital inequality for youth, particularly those from underserved communities across Asia-Pacific. In doing so, the programme seeks to support young people’s employability and enable them to thrive as leaders and globally engaged citizens and contribute to sustainable development in their communities and beyond. Jobs That Make Sense Asia’s “The Watt’s Next” campaign aims to position the renewable energy (RE) sector as an attractive, and promising career path in the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia. The regional event serves as the campaign’s culminating activation that will bring together job seekers and recruiters in one space— fostering connections to support the workforce needs of the energy transition in 2025 and beyond. Event Overview Watt’s Next? Unlocking the Job Market will be an online event on Zoom, designed to connect companies and organizations with talent across Southeast Asia. The event will feature a main room for keynote discussions and multiple breakout rooms for personalized interactions. Some key elements include: – Keynote Discussions: Publicly streamed sessions, hosted by Jobs that Makesense, featuring expert speakers from co-organizing organizations. Topics will focus on green jobs, renewable energy opportunities, and industry insights. – Company Promotion: 20+ breakout rooms available, with 8 companies per country, offering a platform for companies to promote their work and engage in tailored Q&A sessions with attendees. Event Objectives • To facilitate connections between companies or organizations and interested seekers • To promote diverse job and training opportunities in the renewable energy sector Event timeline: January 15, 2025, 9AM to 11AM (GMT+7 time zone)
Task Description
To this end, the selected Online Volunteers will carry out the following tasks under the supervision and guidance of the Event Host Team: General Responsibilities 1. Facilitation Support: – Assist company representatives in setting up and managing their breakout rooms. – Moderate Q&A sessions to ensure smooth and engaging discussions. – Provide tech support to troubleshoot any Zoom-related issues for participants and company representatives. 2. Attendee Management: – Welcome attendees to breakout rooms and provide a brief introduction to the company or organization. – Manage participant flow within breakout rooms, ensuring equal opportunities for engagement. – Collect and document questions or feedback from participants for post-event reporting. 3. Event Coordination: – Support the event team in ensuring sessions stay on schedule. – Communicate with the central organizing team to address any emerging needs during the event. – Monitor participant behavior and ensure compliance with event guidelines. Pre-Event Responsibilities 1. Volunteer Onboarding: – Attend the onboarding session in early January 2025 to familiarize yourself with event objectives, Zoom features, and facilitation protocols. – Review materials provided by assigned companies to understand their focus and objectives. 2. Technical Set-Up: – Test Zoom functionality, including breakout room management, audio, and video settings. – Coordinate with company representatives to test their presentations or materials prior to the event. 3. Outreach Support: – Assist in sharing event details through social media or relevant networks to boost attendance. Post-Event Responsibilities 1. Feedback Collection: – Conduct short post-session surveys or gather verbal feedback from company representatives and participants. – Document key takeaways or issues encountered during sessions for improvement in future events. 2. Event Wrap-Up: – Participate in a debrief session with the organizing team to share experiences and suggestions. – Help consolidate participant engagement data, such as attendance metrics or recorded Q&A logs. Additional Specialized Roles 1. Tech Support: – Act as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting major technical issues across multiple breakout rooms. 2. Social Media Support: – Monitor social media platforms for event mentions, respond to queries, and share live updates during the event. 3. Note-Taking/Reporting Support: – Document insights and highlights from keynote discussions or breakout sessions for event reports or marketing content. Selected Online Volunteers will have to attend the online induction arranged by the UNDP Youth Team Focal Point and will be provided with information and material relevant and necessary to perform the task. SPECIAL NOTICE: This is an unpaid assignment. However, a certificate would be provided at the end of your assignment. The task will be fully virtual. The UNDP Youth Team will provide optional exclusive learning sessions for selected Online Volunteers on SDGs awareness, employability, storytelling, wellbeing, etc. You will also have access to Skill Our Future Digital Learning Platform.
