The Controllers Department (CNT) is housed within the Risk & Finance Vice Presidency Unit, CRFVP and is IFC’s key leader responsible for reporting on financial matters to IFC’s senior leadership and board of directors. The Solutions & Transformation (CNTST) unit within the Controllers Department focuses on combining business, technology, & delivery expertise to support, drive, & enable CNT’s business & digital transformation, that support decision making in line with IFC’s strategic priorities. Team provides leading capabilities in intelligent automation, process excellence, and data delivering value across CNT & the institution. Intelligent Automation team’s focus is to build end-to-end automation using WBG-supported platforms, for CNT processes with structured, semi-structured, or unstructured data. Leveraging AI, Machine Learning, and Search Technologies, we create solutions that enhance productivity, improve decision-making, and increase automation, strengthening our digital landscape. Our team supports systems using traditional machine learning and generative AI models, streamlining operations and empowering Controller’s units to automate processes and make data-driven decisions.
CNTST has co-located some aspects of its work program to IFC’s Chennai Office (CNTCO), who have recruited staff in the IFC Systems & Transformation (CNTSC) to deliver their work program.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Build and enhance machine learning models through all phases of development including design, training, validation, and implementation etc.
• Work on projects involving generative AI, large language models, and retrieval­ augmented generation (RAG)
• Unlock insights by analyzing large scale of complex numerical and textual data and identifying trends.
• Partner with a cross-functional team of data engineers, software engineers, and data visualization to deliver projects.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies.
• Write efficient, maintainable, and well-documented Python code.
• Develop data science solutions based on tools and cloud computing infrastructure.
Selection Criteria
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience in machine learning or AI development OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated track record of successful ML/ AI project implementations.
Required Skills and Expertise
• In-depth knowledge of large language models (LLMs).
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques.
• Require a good understanding of deep learning architectures and algorithms.
• Proven experience in machine learning, deep learning, and statistical analysis.
• Strong experience in Python, with minimum 2 years’ experience in building large program, preferable in financial domain.
• Familiarity with cloud technology (Azure, Databricks, etc.) is preferred.
• Strong understanding of regression models and ensemble methods.
• Ability to select and apply appropriate ML algorithms for given problems.
• Expertise in statistical analysis and hypothesis testing.
• Skills in exploratory data analysis and data visualization.
Desired Skills
• Familiarity with knowledge graph technologies and tools such as RDF, SPARQL, and Neo4j.
• Familiarity with RAG frameworks, including LangGraph.
Controllers Department Competencies
• Client Understanding and Advising: Advises the clients and helps them think proactively about how to best meet their current and future needs, taking into considerations the real underlying issues. Works across CNT and with other VPUs to define client needs and develop the right solutions to meet those needs. PLUS: Provides recommendations to multiple VPUs that can add value to customers beyond normal offerings.
• Broad Business Thinking: Maintains an in-depth understanding of key business issues. Sets clear explanations for the integration and alignment of CNT solutions with business functions. PLUS: consider WBG wide implications in decision making to ensure consistency across WBG. Sponsors long-term VPU-wide initiatives.
• Information Technology and Systems: Demonstrates understanding of the functions and operations of pertinent IT systems and applications. Provides inputs to IT systems improvement efforts based on day to day working experience and knowledge of the systems.
• Analytical Thinking: Coordinates the information gathering and reporting process. Reviews trends and compares to expectations. Conducts analysis to define problems and prepares responses to anticipated questions.
• Policies and Procedures: Demonstrates detailed knowledge of policies and procedures in related fields.
• Risks and Controls: Leads by example and serves as good practice champion in completing internal control procedures, including understanding impact beyond own immediate functional areas.
• Communication: Adapts the communication style appropriate for the intended audience. Adopts an inclusive approach to communication as is appropriate to the situation, so as to ensure adequate partner participation. Presents information effectively and encourage feedback.
• Project Management: Understands and utilizes the concepts of project management, as they relate to implementation of a project.
