Main purpose of job:
We are seeking to recruit a full-time, permanent experienced security guard / back up driver. The position involves shift working hours (either 07:00-15:30, 08:30-17:00 or 09:30-18:00) and the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible and able to work occasional additional hours when required.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Enforce all physical security measures in line with Embassy policies to ensure that all staff work in a safe and secure environment.
- Assist in any other security-related tasks as directed, including monitoring CCTV and conducting routine security checks of visitors and vehicles
- Work collaboratively within the existing guard force team and on-site diplomatic police detail.
- Provide transport services for British Embassy staff and visitors when the full-time drivers require back up.
- Provide a polite and professional service for Embassy visitors and customers, both face-to-face and by telephone.
- Assist Embassy staff with any other duties as directed by the Head of Security or Head of Corporate Services. This includes but is not limited to escorting visitors and assistance in enforcing health and safety measures.
This role also includes elements of office and administration support. The exact tasks will depend on team priorities but are likely to include elements of:
- Admin support for Corporate Services.
- Ad hoc purchases and associated accounting for those purchases.

Our Ideal Candidate shows:
- Fluent Croatian (both written and spoken, minimum C1* level for CEFR framework);
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken, minimum B2* level for CEFR framework);
- At least 3 years of experience in security (private security, law and enforcement, military or similar);
- Obtained at least high school diploma;
- Valid driving licence;
- Some experience with driving duties;
- Good communication and organisational skills, being able to communicate courteously with members of the public in person and by telephone;
- Experienced in using computer and Office applications;
- Ability to work under pressure;
- Professional approach to duties;
- Proactive team worker;
- Ability to maintain professional discretion.

This is a full-time, permanent contract. The monthly salary for this position is €1,732.42 gross + €47.78 transport allowance.
The position is based on a 39.5 hour working week. However due to the nature of the work there is the requirement to work some irregular hours, particularly starting early and finishing late, during the working week. There may also be requirements for longer journeys, to work on weekends or stay overnight during official trips outside Zagreb. The successful candidate will be entitled to overtime payments for working additional hours as and when required.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Croatia in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Zagreb are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Croatian employment law.
Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Croatia.
