PART-TIME ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR

  • UGA Posting #: S14171P
  • Location: Burton 4-H Center, Tybee Island, Georgia
  • Start Date: Week of January 5-9, 2026 (negotiable)
  • Employment Type: Part-time (maximum 29 hours per week)
  • Benefits: Non-benefited, no housing included
  • Positions Available: 1-3

Position Summary

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Environmental Education Instructors to join our team at the Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island. This permanent, part-time role supports our outdoor, science-based learning programs for visiting K–12 students. Instructors teach hands-on classes in coastal ecology, marine science, life science, and team building while also supporting overall center operations.

Ideal Work Schedule (10–29 hours per week)

  • Part-time status limit: Employees must remain under 29 hours per week, on average, to maintain part-time designation. Hours may be flexed to accommodate employee, and/or center needs as long as the overall average maintains part-time status, and program needs are met.
  • Regular daily hours: 8:30am-5:30pm with preferred day combinations being Monday–Tuesday, Tuesday–Wednesday, Wednesday–Thursday, or Monday & Wednesday.
  • Optional/occasional hours (as needed):
    • Dinner Service: Willingness to assist with dinner service from 5:15pm-7:00pm on days that the employee is available and already teaching classes. Priority is on Mondays and Wednesdays; this helps part-time staff avoid teaching night classes and provides coverage for staff teaching evening programs.
    • Fridays: Not a priority day of the week but if available, work is half days from 8:30am-1:00pm
  • Schedule considerations: If the part-time instructor is enrolled in school or has another part-time job, work schedules can be adjusted to support individual needs while still meeting program responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach and facilitate K–12 environmental education classes in coastal ecology, life science, marine science, outdoor skills, and team building.
  • Support curriculum implementation and ensure alignment with state and national education standards.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining teaching areas, facilities, and equipment.
  • Support center operations such as reception, scheduling assistance, and periodic on-call responsibilities.
  • Help with dining hall operations as needed (lunch or dinner support).
  • Provide husbandry and care for live teaching animals.
  • Drive 14 passenger mini buses for student transportation.
