Post-Harvest Techniques Trainer for NEET agriculture Engineer Graduates

MAIN OBJECTIVE:

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of young agricultural professionals to support key services that improve productivity, value chains, market linkages, and overall agricultural performance in Duhok. As the UNHCR Aggregation Hub has been handed over to the Government in coordination with the DoA, qualified staff will be needed to operate the facility. Therefore, AVSI will train 10 NEET agricultural engineers and 2 DoA employees in agribusiness coaching to prepare them for future employment within the Aggregation Hub or similar entities.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

• Conduct a needs assessment to identify knowledge gaps among NEET agricultural engineers and DoA employees before the start of the training.
• Develop comprehensive training materials—including presentations, practical exercises, and demonstration guidelines—focused on post-harvesting techniques and agribusiness coaching, in coordination with the AVSI technical team.
• Deliver a 10-day training program covering:

1. Post-harvest handling and storage
2. Sorting, grading, and packaging techniques

STUDIES REQUIREMENTS

• Advanced degree in Agriculture, Post-Harvest Technology, Food Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• At least 3 years of practical experience in post-harvest handling, storage, processing, and loss reduction.
• Proven experience in training farmers, cooperatives, or agricultural stakeholders using participatory methods.
• Strong technical knowledge of post-harvest loss reduction, storage technologies, food safety, and quality control.
• Excellent facilitation and communication skills; ability to adapt training to local contexts.
• Fluency in Arabic and Kurdish.
• Experience with development or food-security projects and willingness to travel to field locations.
