The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Receptionist & Helpdesk Assistant, job grade Administrative Assistant (AA), on a fixed-term contract of one (1) year. There is a possibility of extension of the contract depending on performance and operational requirements.
The jobholder is the first point of contact for the British Embassy Riyadh, providing a professional front-of-house reception service and a responsive customer helpdesk function. This role supports colleagues and visitors by handling enquiries, diplomatic bags, logging and allocating requests to the appropriate Corporate Services teams, and ensuring customers receive timely updates in line with agreed service standards.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Provide a professional, welcoming and efficient reception service for visitors and staff, directing enquiries appropriately and maintaining a high standard of customer care.
- Handle telephone and in-person enquiries, ensuring accurate messages are taken and passed to the correct teams/individuals. a
- Log, prioritise and allocate customer requests to Corporate Services teams, and track progress to ensure follow-up within agreed service times.
- Maintain regular, accurate communication with customers on the status of their requests, escalating as necessary to ensure a quality service.
- Record and measure the frequency and nature of enquiries/calls to help identify recurring issues and improve service delivery.
- Support the organisation and coordination of day-to-day Corporate Services activity, helping to ensure enquiries are managed efficiently and consistently.
- Manage handover of HR and finance-related enquiries to departmental heads and/or regional hubs, ensuring queries are routed correctly.
- Coordinate requirements for services such as heavy baggage/UAF support, Government Relations support/overflow, and local couriers (in and outside the Kingdom).
- Receive, sort and distribute diplomatic bags and mail, including arranging dispatch as required.
- Translate Arabic names/details on Saudi Post Office mail as needed to support accurate routing and handling.
- Support customer service monitoring activity (e.g., annual customer survey/consultations/exit surveys) and help identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Assist with administrative processes linked to local healthcare/insurance and other corporate services support activities, maintaining accurate records where required.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the Line Manager and Senior Management. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis. The jobholder will also be required to be flexible and support other corporate functions as required.

Eligibility:
The position is available to Saudi nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqama. If you already have the right to work and reside in Saudi (iqama), you will be required to transfer your visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.
Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.
Monthly salary details:
- Base Salary – SAR 5,423.00
- Housing Allowance – SAR 1,356.00 (subject to eligibility) *
- Travel Allowance – SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility) *
- Total – SAR 7,279.00
*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependants of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a fixed term contract for one (1) year, with possibility of extension depending on performance and operational requirements. The British Embassy Riyadh employs Country Based Staff in line with Saudi Labour Law.
This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.
The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening/ weekend) during visits and events. Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months.
