tendersglobal.net

The Faculty of Natural Sciences I, the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and the Collaborative Research Centre 1664 “Plant Proteoform Diversity – SNP2Prot” at Martin Luther University (MLU) Halle-Wittenberg are seeking a Junior Group Leader for a fixed term of five years.

Remuneration will be up to pay grade E14 TV-L.

As part of the FEM POWER Vision project run by the Coordination Office for Gender Research and Equal Opportunities in Saxony-Anhalt, the aim is to increase the retention of qualified women in science and improve their eligibility for tenure, with a focus on STEM.

We are seeking an established female researcher with interests in protein biochemistry and/or RNA biology. A key focus should be the study of protein structures at the experimental level. The successful candidate will join SNP2Prot (https://snp2prot.uni-halle.de), so an interest in plant proteins and computational approaches would be an asset.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to lead a major research project independently, with your own budget
  • A funded doctoral research position (up to 0.65 FTE, TV-L E13) and consumables as part of a PhD project
  • On-site interdisciplinary expertise and a highly supportive research environment
  • Excellent scientific infrastructure and access to a range of experimental facilities – in particular, unrestricted access to the facilities of the Physical Biotechnology Research Group (https://www.biochemtech.uni-halle.de/xray/), including equipment for the production, purification, biophysical characterisation and crystallisation of proteins and other macromolecules, as well as state-of-the-art instruments for X-ray crystallography
  • A wide range of professional training and qualification opportunities, including tailored options from the FEM POWER programme, the Leadership and Career Network, and the UNIBUND mentoring programme
  • The opportunity to pursue your own academic qualification through a habilitation or equivalent

Requirements:

  • A completed university degree and a PhD in biochemistry or a related discipline
  • A proven track record in research on the structure and function of biologically relevant macromolecules using modern experimental methods
  • Relevant publications in international peer-reviewed journals, preferably as first or corresponding author
  • An interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and collaboration, including active participation in the Collaborative Research Centre 1664 SNP2Prot
  • An interest in securing additional external funding, together with relevant experience in drafting funding applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Commitment, leadership and organisational skills, and the ability to work in a team
