Position: Consultant – Livestock Technology & One Health (LTOH) & Goat Enterprise Development
Duration: Until April 2029
Organization: Passing Gifts Pvt. Ltd.
Location: Patna, Bihar (or any District as per requirement)
Overview
The Consultant will serve as a technical and enterprise resource to strengthen goat‑based Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), Goat Producer Companies (GPCs), Producer Groups (PGs), and goat enterprises under JEEVIKA Special Purpose Vehicle for Agriculture Transformation 2.0 (JSPVAT Phase‑2.0) funded by Gates Foundation.
The position will contribute to JSPVAT Phase 2.0 objectives of strengthening existing Goat Producer Companies, supporting new goat enterprises, improving aggregation and market participation, and enhancing the commercial viability of women-led goat enterprises.
The role combines (goat) production expertise with enterprise development support to:
Improve goat productivity and management systems
Promote market‑oriented goat enterprises
Strengthen aggregation and market linkages
Enhance access to services, inputs, finance, and business opportunities
Support women’s participation and leadership in goat enterprises
Scope of Work :
1. Goat Enterprise Development & Value Chain Strengthening
Implement goat enterprise and value chain strategies
Promote improved production practices (selective breeding, strategic feeding, climate reliant housing, better healthcare & disease prevention).
Support aggregation and marketing systems at PG and GPC levels
Facilitate market linkages with traders, buyers, and processors Deliverables: Higher productivity, improved commercial performance, stronger aggregation, better market access.
Support field-level implementation of goat meat enterprise initiatives, aggregation systems, and market-linked production models where applicable.
2. FPC/GPC Strengthening & Institutional Development
Support governance, business planning, and enterprise growth strategies
Build capacities of GPC Board of Directors, CEOs, PG leaders, and community cadres
Facilitate SOPs for enterprise operations Deliverables: Stronger governance, business plans implemented, improved operational performance.
3. Producer Group Aggregation & Market Integration
Strengthening PGs in aggregation and collective marketing
Facilitate PG‑GPC integration and quality management practices Deliverables: Increased aggregation volumes, functional PG‑GPC integration, improved producer participation.
4. Goat Feed, Fodder & Service Enterprise Development
Support establishment of fodder demonstrations, community fodder systems, goat feed enterprises, and climate-resilient feeding models in collaboration with JEEViKA and Goat Producer Companies.
Support feed/fodder business initiatives and linkages with service providers Deliverables: Improved nutrition, stronger fodder enterprises, enhanced productivity of goats.
5. Partnerships, Convergence & Service Delivery
Coordinate with JEEViKA teams and converge with veterinary service, goat breeding, financial, and insurance providers
Facilitate access to schemes and financial products Deliverables: Strengthened service ecosystem, improved access to finance and veterinary services
6. Monitoring, Learning & Reporting
Maintain enterprise and market data
Document best practices, innovations, and success stories
Prepare timely reports and updates Deliverables: Reliable data, documented models, improved monitoring and learning system
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s/master’s in veterinary science& animal Husbandry, Livestock Production & Management, Rural Management, or related fields
Experience: 3–5 years in livestock development specifically goat value chains, FPO/FPC strengthening, agribusiness, or rural livelihoods
Preferred: Experience in livestock extension, goat enterprise development, market linkages, and government/development projects
Essential Competencies
Strong knowledge of goat production systems, animal health, nutrition, and breeding
Understanding of enterprise development, aggregation, and market‑led value chains
Skills in facilitation, training, mentoring, and capacity building
Analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities
Proficiency in MS Office and digital data tools
Fluency in Hindi and local languages of Bihar
Willingness to travel extensively
Motivated to work responsibly with little supervision.
Ability to meet and deal with others in a courteous and tactful manner.
Ability to work with sensitive information and to always maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and electronic mail software (Microsoft preferred).
Constant sitting, standing and walking, with occasional bending and lifting; may work at a computer for extended periods of time.
